Deferred Now What?

is it really neccessary to be so bitter now, this thread is for hopeful deferrees + it's the holidays. oh wells, happy holidays guys :] let's enjoy atleast one day where we don't have worry over college apps and etc

Guess what i did tonight??????????????????????????????

my georgetown app :(

I'm also applying to Georgetown. Maybe I'll see ya there next year. I like DC better than Ann Arbor, but Georgetown doesn't give merit money. So, not sure if it will be any better than UMICH. What do you think?

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays guys!

anitaw: wow, thanks for putting things into perspective with the whole tsunami thing. though right now, sitting at home doing apps on christmas is really really not how i envisioned my vacation to be. -_-;

dulce: congrats on your umich scholarship. but if u get into penn RD round and i dont, i will totally (cyber) kick your butt.

all I know is if I get into Georgetown and Penn all be going to Penn.

yea I applied to Georgetown too.. it's my second choice!

ok, question: How did you guys phrase your deferral letters to Penn? Mine was pretty brief, just saying how Penn is still my first choice.. and I added a couple new debate awards...

And I have another teacher rec and essay that I liked that I'm going to send...

are you guys doing anything else?? Did you email the RD your letter, or did you mail it?

I think I will send copies of all my other acceptances, including scholarship awards, and tell Penn that someone wasn't doing their job correctly from their admission committee.

Wow you are extremely conceited.

Your post has nothing to do with what we're talking about. You said earlier that you wanted to encourage deferrees to look outside of Penn, but guess what? WE DON'T WANT TO. We love Penn, and we don't appreciate your hate. I suggest that you ***** off, unless that is you want to be the scapegoat for all of our stress about deferrals.. suit yourself you masochistic b*tch.

Maybe this conceited side of dulce came out in the essays, and Penn just doesnt want her. Mich really does not pay much attention to essays and focuses more on stats. Also, looking at the Mich forum this year, it seems like lots of URMs are given nice scholarships and they get them quickly. Maybe Mich just saw the box dulce checked for race and just threw money her way to get another URM before prop 2 comes into effect.

Well now, aren't we being a bit racist here? My advisor in school told me that any ADCOM which does not admit me does not know how to do their job properly.
Why would you love Penn if they deferred you? Why would you want to kiss their "you know what" for a 10% chance of getting in? You guys are a bunch of followers,
MY guidance counselor said everything about my app was perfect...recs, essays (she recommended I use the same essay as much as I can), and very good stats (although not tops from my school). That is why we are all thinking that Penn made a big mistake.
I'M A LEGACY, TOO. Maybe Penn didn't like the donations my mother gave. PROBABLY YOUR parents gave much bigger donations and that's what got you in!

oooooh my goodness are you for real

im sure dulces true personality of a sore looser showed thru his app and that is why he was deferred.

I wish I had a "perfect app".. and went to a private school... and was a legacy. I'd be in for sure.

Merry Christmas everybody!

lol let's see dulce...

I'm an affluent white girl from the eastern burbs of MA, (about as far from URM as you can get)-- not a legacy, not a recruited athlete, (public school) not a feeder private school, only have ever sent one other person to Penn, and I applied along with a nationally ranked swimmer who's already making plans to go to the olympics, and was recruited by Penn, Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern, etc. Basically the stars had aligned to suck, but ready for it... I still got in!!! I'm not doing this to gloat, but I think Penn gets annoyed at students like yourself who expect to get in because they're legacy, etcetc. I'm a real life person who had absolutely every thing possible against them, but because they liked my essays, or my ECs or what have you they wanted to take me despite ... well everything else. Don't hate on the school, look at what you can do to improve your applications. Given you had such a leg up on me ALREADY, there had to be some kind of glaring issue with your app that you and your advisor missed. Just because she said everything was perfect, that doesn't make it true. In fact, I would reconsider asking this woman her opinion at all, as her approach is clearly unsuccessful.

Every year, there are applicants like dulce. I think that his/her actions would only reassure Penn that they're making the right choice.

happy christmas you guys! lol beamer

yeah, what minor said

**** could always be worse like getting blown up in Iraq or going to Cornell.

Hey dulce apparently your application wasnt perfect, or the admissions committe didnt think so. Haven't you stopped to think that the reason you didnt get in does not lie simply on your "very good" application but that you were a mediocre and non spectacular applicant. Havent you seen all those people with over 2300 s and top of the class being deferred or rejected. Trust me you aren't anything special. I recommend you accept your UMich offer becuae if they ever get more exposed to your character they will probably rescind their offer. You have to remember that you aren't applying to a public school or a lower level school, but an Ivy league school. There is nobody who is an obvious admit.

i think you should just take your beloved acceptance, stop acting like a brat, and get the f*** out of here. You re turning a hope based forum into a bitter one.

PS if you were such a good applicant then post your stats and overall profile and let everyone decide if you were
