I agree with glassesarechic, but I don’t think that they need an early action waitlist quite this big…

GC told my D to submit an update. He suggested she emphasize that Princeton remains her #1 choice, add a one paragraph description of the mentoring she’s been providing to some middle school track kids (she’s the varsity team captain) as well as a list of accomplishments since Nov 1. My D’s isn’t quite fast enough for track to be used as a hook.

The only kid from her high school admitted to an Ivy league in the last 5 years was a superb basketball player (hook), so this GC has no experience with getting someone into an Ivy. Has anyone else received solid advice?

@comom: I guess in this case it is better to send an update since the school is not well known and a letter of interest will not likely be interpreted as insincere/redundant/useless flattering. Make sure to mention how she LOVES Princeton, how Princeton is the perfect place for someone like her personally-this “love Princeton” part should be more emphasized than any update that is not on an earth-shattering level (making the national team; winning ISEF; becoming fluent in 3 languages in a month etc), and make sure it is passionate and has her voice in it. Good luck!

Yeah I sent in an update saying how much Princeton is my first choice as well and updates like winning a state championship and getting a competitive internship. Princeton never responded though so I don’t know if it all got there. I sent it to the admissions email and also by mail so hopefully it did,
