deferred = rejected twice?

I was deferred from CALS and I've got a few questions...

so what are the chances is getting in to Cornell after being deferred? is it pretty much like being rejected twice? are you just considered like a RD applicant? If by some chance I am accepted RD does that mean that the ED agreement is still in place?

It is not like being rejected twice, you have not been rejected yet. You are considered an RD applicant, the binding agreement is not in place, and I have no stats for you concerning this

good luck

I’m curious if the admissions office looks at the fact that you DID apply Early Decision. This is a fit school after all, and it seems like applying ED would be a plus over those who applied RD. If nothing else, it means the acceptees would be much more likely to attend than RD applicants.

Yes, applying ED is a plus in the RD round. ED’ers are also much more likely to be offered a Transfer Option.

“This is a fit school” I keep hearing this arguement and it makes absolutely no sense to me. Cornell University is an Ivy League institution and is arguably one of the top 20 universities in the world. I would be willing to guess that 75% of applicants “fit” Cornell’s stats. Why else would you apply to an Ivy if you did not have the stats. Everyone here is at the top of their class; therefore, Cornell is not a “fit”.

Your CC name is “hotelie” and you are arguing that Cornell is not a “fit” school?

My irony meter just broke.

hotelie they don’t mean fit stats wise, they mean the applicant has the necessary stats, and then also fits the program they are applying to, eg if an engineer lots of math science stuff, if a hotelie experience in the hospitality industry, etc.

This doesn’t really apply to cas though which is the largest school, so not sure why everyone says it so much.

Heck, I applied ED, was deferred to RD, and was accepted that spring. Trust me, there’s no certainty that you’ll be rejected, it just means that as a candidate you did not stand out enough and they want to see what the other applicants have to offer before they issue more acceptances.

That being said, if you have other college apps to finish, deferrment should be your cue to get on those.

Deferred to Hotel School… very disappointing because it’s my dream school!
I applied for international fin.aid, can that be a reason for getting deferred?

SHA site provides higher acceptance % for RD than ED… do they often accept deferred?

Also, how do I add “additional information” and in what form?
Is it due by the RD application deadline? Please tell me no :S.

Also, do you think it’s a good idea to send a letter from the the hotel I’m doing an internship at?
A letter about my performance etc.

Yes, that would be a good addition to your file.
To add additional information, send them it by mail.

Maybe attach a personal response letter about how Cornell is still your dream, etc.
