Deferred to the CGS?

I haven’t heard back yet, but has anybody been “deferred” to CGS after being rejected from the original college of their choice? I have a feeling that might happen to me, I originally applied to the CAS. I called the admissions office, and I was told that if you don’t get into the first college of your choice, then you can automatically be placed in the CGS.

I got put in CGS.

i originally applied for CGS not knowing where to apply and they put me in CAS

I got put into CGS. I guess I'm not goign to enroll..

mag00 - what don't you like about CGS?

Just wondering, mainly because I don't know what to do if I am placed in it

well if you don't want to study many different subjects such as history, english, social sciences, natural sciences, math etc... for two years then I suggest not doing CGS. CGS makes you take a bunch of different classes in different subjects for the first two years and then moves you into the school of your choice after the 2 years.

So ask yourself this will you be willing to take general classes for 2 years in many different subjects such as history, english, natural science, social science etc... and still be happy and won't mind transferring into the school of your choice AFTER 2 years.

If the answer is no then I wouldn't choose CGS.

that is the exact reason why I'm not going. That, and they only offered me $3000 dollars for financial aid.

Yeah I've met a lot of CGS kids who are currently in the process of transferring into COM. While you get a late start on your majors, you're basically getting rid of the same liberal arts requirements that COM, CAS, etc. have to take by simply doing the CGS classes. The thing is, you don't get to choose any random, cool class to fill, say, a social science requirement. While it kinda does suck, if you really want to come out of BU with a major in COM for example (being that COM is one of the best communication schools in the nation), it's worth it.

(Sorry about my COM reference instead of CAS. I just know more about COM, being that I'm in it, haha.)
