I have worked very hard this semester to show them my motivation and was wondering what y’all think my chances are! (I go to a competitive public in state school)
Your GPA is what sunk you. Having those excellent grades coming in for your first semester will help you a lot…but even 3.75 is low for UMich. Lot of other kids in deferral might have good first semesters, too. If you’re considering medical school, where is your AP Chem and AP Biology? (if not medicine, what do you hope to study at LSA?) Good luck. Let us know!
Just curious as to why my extracurriculars aren’t good enough? I felt like being a world-class athlete would be something they would want… especially since I’m a female weightlifter. I know my GPA isn’t great but I worked really hard this semester to show them my motivation
I’m actually going for LSA with a double major in Spanish and politics. My two social studies classes (business law and current issues) are second semester. I took physics because I heard umich likes both Chem and physics no matter what your major is and forensics and micro we’re just kinda given to me. Thank you! I’m hoping for the best.
You are still very competitive and your extracurriculars are fine. UM isn’t impressed when you list 30 activities (I had an admissions counselor say that they liked to add up the hours and are always bemused when applicants claim to be engaged in activities for 40 hours a week). My advice is to write a letter of interest and update them on anything new and significant.
@uofmkatedeferred99 gpa is always the most important factor for umich and the admission officer who came to our school said that extracurriculars are just the icing on top but u have to have the grades and class rigor. Send in your strong senior grades. Good luck!
