Alright so this is my number 1 choice, and I'm from New Jersey. I went for an interview and spilled my heart out to the guy. I really screwed up my sophmore year but rebounded and wrote that out in my essay. I have a 3.3 GPA and a 1080 on the SATS... I know its not too strong of a resume but I'm taking 2 AP courses, one in which is the course I plan to major in (psychology)... I recieved my letter yesterday and was told I was deferred. I'm completely upset and distraught by this because I feel like im just being toyed with. I've heard that deferral is just a nice way of saying rejected? Can anybody inform me on what my chances actually are and what I can do to get in here?

You have a decent shot. Just keep them informed and updated throughout the rest of the school year. Send a letter as to why you and the school would be a good fit for one another.

When deferred from ivies and other top schools good luck!!!! In my experience those who make it in RD are legacies whose parents made sudden big gifts.

With schools like UVM I think it's often more genuine. They want to see another term of solid work from someone in your situation. Don't give up. Send another rec and get good grades!
