My friend was deferred with a 32 ACT, in state, 3.7 weighted GPA, with a total of 5 APs
also her father is a graduate professor in nuclear engineering at UMich and her sister graduated at the top of her class for biomedical engineering in june of 2010 from UMich

anyway, is there anything she should do specifically to improve her chances of getting into UMich in April?

Extra rec letters?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Its strange that your friend didn’t get in with her father being a professor… Regardless, a 3.71 weighted gpa isn’t very impressive. The average gpa unweighted is around 3.7. The best she can do now is aim for straights As as a senior and submit her mid-year report.

The unweighted GPA is the biggest determining factor. If the weighted GPA is 3.7, then the unweighted may not even be a 3.5. It is tough to gain admittance to U-M with a 3.5 unweighted GPA even with high test scores. A strong mid-year report may help.

your schools are different than ours
we don’t weight honors classes only APs
and yeah her midyear report will be pretty good A in AP psych and i think a B+ in ap statistics but the rest all honors and all As

yeah i was surprised when she didnt get in because of her dad too
