So I got my deferral, like I was expecting. I thought there was an outside chance i'd get accepted as my friend who has worse stats than me but is a minority got in, but that didn't happen. Anyways, that's a separate issue.

I'm wondering what i'm supposed to do at this point in the process. There was something at the bottom of the letter that worried me, stating that "you should look closely at other colleges". I'm afraid that I won't get in now.

Is there anything I can do besides just work hard and get A's? I had a 3.72 this semester, so better than I normally do, with 2 AP classes. Should I ask for these grades to be sent? There was a C+ I got in AP English, besides that, all A's. Should I wait until the end of the first SEMESTER, and get that grade higher to the B range, then send in those semester grades?

I'm dissapointed, but still enthusiastic and hopeful. My father got laid off today as well, this isn't a great day. Now we have no income except for unemployment checks (maybe that will help my financial aid)?

What were your stats when you applied to Michigan? Maybe you could take an ACT or something again and send it in before February so they'll change their mind.

I have a 3.63 weighted GPA. I had a 29 on the ACT, and I don't know if I can do much better. My UW Academic GPA is a 3.53, and Michigan completely screws it over through their getting rid of the +/-, making it a 3.3.

if i were u, i would wait till the end of the semester and send ur grades in cuz it will show mich u have the better grades than if u were to send it in now.............

ur act score is good but not great but i wouldn't worry about it..........

as for fin aid idk but i'am truly sorry about ur father being laid off. Hopefully u guys can pull through.

are u instate or out of state? when did you apply? what were ur stats besides gpa/act? and.... did you hear about it online or did they send you a letter in the mail???

Did your letter explicitly say you were deferred? I recieved a letter asking for a mid-year report before they could reach a decision. I mistook it for a deferral. My counselor called the admissions office and was told that they were going to wait for the mid-year report to make any sort of decision- whether it be deferral, rejection, acceptance, etc..

if it's been more than three weeks since my all of my apps were received, should i assume that i'm deferred?
my stats were 1530+680(writing) SAT 3.9 UMich GPA

I applied mid-October. I think my grades were the reason, as I wrote very passionate essays, got great rec letters, and my test score is above average. School does not rank. I'm in-state, my father works for the university, my mother and father both attended the university.

wowww that really scares me that u got deffered b/c my stats are similar to yours, i have a 3.5 Michigan gpa depending on if they count my pysc and sociology classes as academic, and a 1260 on the sats, i know im boderline but i was hoping that my dad being allum would push me over the edge, thats crazy that u didnt get accepted, u said ur dad works for the University andddd both parents allum annnnd instate??! im really worried now

If you got deferred, I would strongly suggest you look into other colleges as the odds of you getting admitted for the fall are now extremely slim -- they haven't accepted anyone from waitlist in years. Your 3.3 GPA is what did you in, as the 29 ACT is strong.

If there's not another college you feel strongly about going to, consider applying to transfer to UM after a semester or two.

maybe they really dont like your parents, otherwise i would have said u were a sure bet to get in considering your in state with alumni parents.

Yeah, I haven't been waitlisted, rather just having a delayed decision. They haven't rejected me, but are just delaying decision, to see if other applicants who are better than me come along that they can accept instead, and to see my grades this year (which are looking very good, all A's and a B in AP English)

Do they outright reject anyone b4 the February deadline? Lets say I apply and get deferred, but am taking the ACT in December and score a 32+ (as opposed to my low SAT score now) will I be considered for admission again? How does it work?
