<p>So i just got a letter from Michigan State University and University of Michigan. Got into MSU which was good but U of M deferred me. So I'm stuck on the waiting list. Is there anything I can do or is it pretty much over for me for U of M? Oh and also, don't laugh at me, it really hurts.</p>
<p>Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind, what where your stats?</p>

<p>You can probably still muster an acceptance out of U of M. My best bet to do this is to try to get the highest grades possible in the rest of your classes. Also, tell them that you're still interested and update them on what you're doing with your time.</p>

-Unweighted GPA: 3.7 (Into Umich GPA calculation)
-ACT Score: 1st test-22, 2nd test-25 (yeah, that's probably my weak spot)
-Took a total of 4 AP classes. (AP U.S history, Ap Gov't, AP European History. and AP Early American history)
-Michigan resident
-Go to a pretty good school.
-Decent E.C ( 200 hours of community service, marching band, etc)
-I help out my mom's store 20 hours a week
-Essay were pretty good. My teacher who corrected it loved my essay and one of my short answer. But she thought my other short answer was okay, not as good as my essay.
-I can't say too much about the recommandation since I don't know what my teacher wrote about me. But I have to assume it's a good recommendation since i had her for three years straight, she knows me pretty well and she likes me.

<p>You're not on the waiting list. Your decision is merely deferred. Which is good. People do get in after getting deferred, but I hear they almost never take anybody off the waiting list. I agree with the above advice. Keep your grades up and express an interest.</p>
<p>I can't believe how widely this seems to be misunderstood! Just as boysmom said, you're wrong about the waiting list. You're not on the waiting list. The wait list is a completely different animal, and if you were to placed on the waitlist you'd hear that much later in the process. </p>
<p>"Deferred" means "We haven't made ANY decision on your application yet." They're sending you a letter so you know that, instead of wondering why you haven't heard anything for weeks and weeks.</p>

<p>Okay okay, I reread the letter. At first I panicked so i misunderstood everything. I knew this earlier hoedown so thanks for your comment. For tiff58, I got a letter for deferral and two pages of question and answers about the admission process</p>

<p>I don't know how other schools do it, or if it means the same thing. I just know what it means when U-M does it! I know they don't want to discourage people or make them feel like there's no hope!</p>

What tiff58 meant was that "in the deferrabl letter, did they ask you to send in your mid-year grade?" There is a difference, as U-M normally does not require mid-year report. If they specifically ask for it in your deferral letter, it means that your mid-year grades may be important in the decision.</p>
