It seems as if a large amount of the people from my high school who applied to Illinois were deferred. It is a very large high school class (1,100), with approximately 250-300 students applying to UIUC each year. I wouldn't be surprised if at least 50-100 were deferred, with an additional 100-150 rejected.

Last year, there were 309 applicants, 169 of which were accepted. It is a very competitive High School (probably one of the best in the Chicagoland area) from a rich suburb of Chicago.

Another thing I've noticed-- in the past three years, U of I has accepted 173, 173, and 169 students from my high school. However, the amount of students applying in the classes of 2004, 2005, and 2006 were 278, 233, and 309. Do you think U of I has essentially set a quota/limit for the amount of students they can accept from my school?

Has anyone else seen this occurring at their school? Or is U of I just becoming more selective?

New Trier, I could tell immediately since I go there too. Definitely tons of people were deferred, even those well qualified in the past. I have friends w/ ACTs 30+ who were deferred from LAS

That sucks, I applied to Engineering and got in w/ a 34 but 33 vs 34 isn't a big difference. It seems really subjective. Did you apply to business?

and wow really! that's surprising! with a 33, i've found they're really paying attention to GPA too. since i have friends w/ similar rank and high ACT who were also deferred. i think they're really focusing on grades this year. is u of i a major school you want to go to? hopefully you can get accepted in april
