Oh Bummer, I got deferred.

So I got deferred, does anyone have any information about UIUC's deferral statistics? I'm kind of bummed, and I want to know if there is still any hope for me in this cold and dreary world. ha.

Yes, I read on UIUC blog website that usually over 50% of deferrels get admitted.

No waaaay. That would be insanely incredible! Can you perhaps post the link?? I’d love you forever!

I also got deferred, so we’ll see what happens.

Sure I can post the link, one minute.

Here is the link:[U</a> of I Admissions: Blog Blog Archive Deferred and Denied Applicants](http://blog.admissions.illinois.edu/?p=4221)

I’m not that surprising considering the students stats who recently got denied admission on cc, so deferrel is likely competitive as well.

For fun, statistically if both of you were deferred ( cc users above) chances are one of you will likely get admitted.

Thanks CoolBreeze. We’ll see how it goes, it’s UI or IU(admitted). I’m from Atlanta, so I don’t really know which one to choose if I got into both (assuming that Illinois doesn’t screw me over Feb 19). Can you or anyone else give me some insight into what the local opinions of the two schools are?

I’m a Michigan resident, so I have a good ideal about mid-west schools ( well actually all regions). University of Illinois is generally seen as more prestige with Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. While Indiana University is also great, but compare better with Iowa, Michigan State, Pennlsyvania State, and Ohio State.

Both are great schools so definately pick by which is best fit, generally I would say most would attend University of Illinois- UC over Indiana University- Bloomington.

Yeah, I’m from Illinois, and Coolbreeze is right. Indiana definitely isn’t looked down upon, but people just don’t hold it to the same standard as Illinois, Michigan, or Wisconsin.

Thanks guys, that clarifies a bit. So I’m going to make an assumption that while they are different types of schools, both are great, but UI is more academically superior which would make me look better to future employers. Did I take it too far, I know it’s kind of a big assumption, but…

Thats a fair assumption. I also got deferred with a 3.6 GPA and 29 ACT while applying to ACES. I’m pretty confident that we’ll get accepted if the senior grades are kept up. What makes me kind of irritated is kids getting in with a 3.5 and a 28 over me, it happens I guess…

Ive seen URMs get into U of I with 21 on the act. So, 28 is actually pretty good. Also, Im fairly certain U of I doesnt look at senior grades even if youve been deferred.

dman:
it isn’t all about grades bud haha. I had like B’s and A’s my first 2 years and then pretty much straight A’s my last two because i realized i should put in more effort if i want to get into a decent college. As a result my gpa is only like 3.1/3.2. Plus my SAT’s are crappy compared to ENG kids. I still got deferred instead of denied for Computer Science. And they can’t really look at senior grades hence they don’t want you to update anything…

I really wish people wouldn’t judge others purely off the fact that they did worse than you in high school. High school is a big joke, so many kids have high grades/SAT’s and their not even smart, just put in more effort then others and just do better on tests. College is going to be more about critical thinking, so see you there :D

Of course i was dumb of not trying, but still, all the people i consider the smartest in my school usually aren’t the ones who try the most. The valedictorians etc., do not impress me at all.

u of i lets in over fifty percent of deferrals due to their common practice of considering people for their first choice of major. lets say for example u applied to engineering and were deferred, since engineering is a very difficult major to be admitted to u could have had a 30 act good gpa and get deferred. u probably couldhave been admitted into another program, but u of i tends to wait until the regular decision applications are all looked at, and if u can get in your first choice they will put u in it. otherwise they will typically admit u to a different major.

People post their gpa’s and act’s all over the place without realizing what a difference a good essay can make. That’s what indicates whether you’ve been reading more than textbooks and internet forums your whole life.
