Hi, so I'm looking at Georgetown and I'm just a little confused as to the the degree you graduate with from their School of Foreign Service. On their website they refer to it as a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and you can pick your major. So on your degree will it say Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service or Bachelor of Science whatever your major.

Of Foreign Service. Just like if you major in Biology you don’t get a Bachelor’s of Biology. Your major will be listed, as will your language proficiency.

(Though personally I still don’t understand why we get a BS and not a BA)

Well, when you say “on your degree” you have to specify…

Your actual diploma is written in Latin, so it will say “Scientiæ Baccalaureatum in Rebus Exteris” i.e. Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service. This is, ostensibly, it’s own degree type - nurses get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on their diploma, but someone who majors in Bio just gets “Bachelor of Science.” Heavy on tradition, light on rhyme or reason.

Your transcript will list the degree as “Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service” as well as your major (International Politics, International Political Economy, etc.), any certificates, any language proficiencies, etc.
