Delivery from Summertime Storage

My DD stored her stuff with Summertime Storage. We have a choice of getting it delivered anytime between 8am-2pm ( ( a 6 hour window) and if we are not there they will leave it outside the door or paying $150.00 more to have it delivered in a 1 hour time slot of our choice. Does anyone know if it is safe to leave the boxes in the hall for a couple of hours? It would cost a lot more to replace everything!

Well, personally I think it is safe. But I would hate to feel contributory in the unlikely event something were to happen. But so much of this stuff just gets exaggerated. I was shocked a little myself when my D told me the post office would leave packages on her porch unless instructed to deliver them to the chapel next door. Nothing ever got stolen. So I guess it falls into the category of if you want to feel 100% safe, you have to pay for it. But I consider the odds extremely low anything would happen. And you will be in and out during those 6 hours, I assume.

Ok- good. My daughter thought the same thing. Thanks

Can you pick it up at their facility?
Arrange for them to have it ready to be picked up by you at a certain time.
Take a cab if you don’t have a car.

That is an option I guess, although part of the reason to pick these companies in the first place was the pickup and delivery. But @beerme is certainly right that this would be the most secure, presumably.

Oliver17…if you don’t mind sharing…how expensive are these summer storage options…sure seems like a grand idea instead of schlepping all the stuff back home for 10 weeks or so.

Thanks for the suggestions but we don’t have a car and the delivery is part of the price plus it would be a MAJOE hassle to get the huge boxes to the dorm and up to the 3rd floor without an elevator.
Vandyeyes- It was 30.00 for the supply kit and 40.00 for each box. The boxes were pretty big! This price included picking up the boxes from her dorm room and and delivering them in August. They stored them in a temperature controlled unit. They were very accommodating and nice to work with. It was a lot easier than sending everything home!

As best I can recall, most people reported spending between $100 and $150, give or take. In other words, 2-3 boxes. Might be cheaper than taking stuff home and WAYYYYY more convenient.

When my daughter was a sophomore she lived in Mayer and when we checked all her boxes from Summertime Storage were sitting outside her room. I don’t know how long they were there but everything was fine.

Last year there were boxes outside doors in Wall for hours. My daughter didn’t mention hearing about any problems.

Thanks so much. I am doing the regular delivery but you guys made me feel better about my decision. Also, I didn’t know this but someone is at the desk to get a key for the dorm 24/7. I thought we’d have to wait to move in until Friday since we get in late Thursday but we are going to go straight to the dorm from the airport Thursday night since she signed up for early move in.

oliver…summertime told me that they were not allowed on campus until after 4:00 on friday and since you and I have a dinner reservation friday night, I am having them deliver on saturday between 8am-12pm. did they tell you that they could deliver earlier on friday? looking forward to our dinner! :)

No, they are not allowed to deliver on Friday until after 4:00 because of Freshman move in but they can deliver Thursday! Glad to see you are still monitoring this site…you can keep me on track Jozuko! ( BTW, I am looking forward to dinner as well)

hmmm…so do you think that we can get into the rooms Thursday, for sure? How do you sign up for early
move in?. S is in Greenbaum, so it may technically be considered a freshman dorm. I will have to investigate this!

I think, but you should confirm, that they don’t allow other move ins at any dorm on Friday until after 4 just to keep traffic down and things as smooth as possible for the freshmen. So even upperclassmen moving into Aron or Willow I think are not supposed to do so during those hours. But check it out and let us know.

D said Greenbaum is a sophomore dorm. She said to email housing and explain why you need early move in.

Greenbaum is mixed freshmen and sophs. Still worth coordinating with housing though.

There are freshmen in Greenbaum too.

There is usually an additional fee for early move in, but maybe if you have a legitimate reason, they would let it slide. Never hurts to ask!
