Demonstrated Interest

My son just decided to apply to Wake Forest although it has always been on his radar. He definitely has the stats but he hasn't been able to visit yet. Could this have a big impact on his acceptance?

He can interview by Skype, but he needs to make an appointment to do that right away as they offer a limited number of slots.

A limited number of slots for Skype interview?

@coffeegal Yes, your son needs to register for an interview by Dec. 1, but sooner is better than later as they often run out at the end of December. Remember that they need to have to comprehensively review each interview and the application with its 5 or whatever essays in a short time period, so they will have limited time. For his sake, I’d definitely visit, even if that’s after the deadline to apply, WFU’s a place you want to see and experience a bit to know if it’s right for him.

If you apply after sending your app will they still consider as demonstrated interest for your app?

My son did not schedule an interview prior to Dec. 1 so now he missed the boat. He does have a tour scheduled for end of January. Even though he is qualified, will it be frowned upon that he didn’t have an interview? In other words, is an interview mandatory? As I said, it was a very last minute decision to apply because he decided he wants a smaller school in the south (all the other schools he applied to in the south are quite large).

I don’t think you need to worry about that. I submitted the application by the ED deadline and i didn’t schedule any interview. But yesterday, the admission office send me a email requesting for a Skype interview!

I would be very careful about hanging my hat on a situation like Weihrauch’s. Wake Forest is clear that an interview is part of the admissions process. I think it is a huge risk to miss the deadline or for some reason to choose to not sign up for an interview.

^^^^^^
Well that is not true… and rather unkind I might add. Wake Forest has addressed what to do if you miss the interview deadline. <a href=“Undergraduate Admissions Blog | Undergraduate Admissions | Wake Forest University”>Undergraduate Admissions Blog | Undergraduate Admissions | Wake Forest University;

I just don’t want people reading this thread in the future to think, “Oh… I’ll apply and blow off scheduling the interview, but I’m such an awesome student that WF will make an exception for me.”

@69wakeforest420 I see by your username you are a troll… “69” and “420” ??? Nice try.

@cbrand thank you very much for the link – very helpful!

Ignore @69wakeforest420‌. Demonstrated interest always helps, but there are ways to show demonstrated interest without necessarily visiting, such as communicating with admissions. Good luck!
