I am FREAKING OUT! I did not schedule an interview... I am stupid enough to not have really checked up on Wake interviews. I heard that they do not offer interviews out of state (I live in California), so stupid me did not worry about it. I just checked their application checklist, late I know, and found out that they offer Skype interviews, but the deadline to schedule them was Dec 15. I also found out that the interviews were VERY IMPORTANT. They fall under requirements in the checklist but it also says that they are highly recommended. Which is it? I'm so confused. I'm so worried. Someone please give me advice! The cons of living across the country. Sigh.

First of all, I live in Kansas and I scheduled an interview. Being out of state isn’t an excuse. Secondly, any time a college says that something is highly important or highly recommended, then it is required if you want to be seriously considered unless you are a perfect 4.0 gpa, 36 ACT, 2400 SAT, 4 time state champion in three sports, President of student counsel, and leader of a charity that you created yourself for staving children in Uganda (no disrespect toward Uganda). So you better hope your application jumps off the page.

okay that response could not have been more rude. Yes, it is true Wake considers the interview highly important. I just scheduled my skype interview last week. Now, just because you don’t plan on interviewing, it does not mean that you are guaranteed rejection. It will be more difficult, but I would suggest just making sure your essays are near perfect and that everything else on your application is immaculate. Another suggestion would be to email admissions and explain your confusion and ask if you could somehow still schedule a skype interview, or a timed written interview, if possible. Don’t freak out, it will be okay! Good luck!

Relax. You will be fine I think. We live in Florida, and I have twins that are Freshmen at Wake this year. Your situation is almost identical to what happened to both of my sons last year. One took the initiative to send a late e-mail, and was able to schedule a skype interview past the deadline. The other procrastinated further, and had to do a timed, written questionaire on-line, simulating the “thinking on your feet” aspect of an interview. I assume they still offer that third option a year later. Anyway, both were admitted. I have found everyone at Wake much more flexible and accomodating than I could have imagined. Send them an e-mail today, appologize for the oversight, and ask if it’s too late to schedule a skype interview.

i’m in the exact same situation as well. but i applied ED to another school so i wasn’t allowed to apply to any other schools until after i heard from my ED school on december 15. i didn’t get in to my ED school, so i also requested a wake interview after december 15. haven’t heard back from them yet (only just requested yesterday), but i’m planning on sending my admissions counselor an email explaining the ED situation. a lot of my friends have gone there and haven’t had interviews, so i think it’s just something they like for applicants to have but i’m sure it’s not going to be devastating to your application if you don’t have one! hopefully it won’t be to mine :)

Thanks for all your help guys!

I’m in the same boat. Should I send them an Email or even do anything? I’m guessing it is too late to make any productive action, and while I am not freaking out, I would like to interview if possible. Any clue as to what action I should take? Or should I sit back and pray for the best…

From what I’ve heard, it is very hard to get into Wake without interviewing. It’s even harder to get into Wake without an interview during the regular decision deadline. If I were you, I would call the admissions office ASAP. There are many applicants who get deferred under the ED provision that will be competing for spots in the regular pool (not to mention the countless Duke/Vanderbilt/Emory applicants who also apply to Wake as their “safety”). Many of these students that get accepted have GPA’s greater than 4.0, graduate at the very top of their classes, and score high SAT’s.

Best of luck to you!

I was just accepted last week!

just to let you all know about my previous post, i did fill out the interview request form and they just emailed me back scheduling a skype interview for tomorrow! i sent my interview request in WELL after december 15 and i was still able to get one. i’m sure they have cancellations fairly often. i would go ahead and ask for one! you never know - you may get one quickly like i did and it definitely won’t hurt!

I did the same thing. I freaked out four days ago because I didn’t schedule one, submitted a late request on their website, got an email two days later saying my interview would be tomorrow. I think they just say have it done by the fifteenth to scare people into doing it earlier rather than later. Good luck on your interview!

p.s. How do they call us if they haven’t requested me as a contact on skype?

^They request you as a contact right before the interview.
