Demonstrated Interest

I did a search of the forum and several threads have said that NU is big on demonstrated interest. How important is it to make a visit to campus? My parents will definately not let me visit unless I get accepted. Also, NU came to my area for an info session, but I couldn't make it. NU is not scheduled to visit my school.

Besides the why NU essay, what can I do to show NU that I really want to attend their school. I can't apply ED for various reasons, so that's out of the question.

Research the program(s) you're interested in, and talk to current students or somehow get info on them. Then make it sound like you are informed in your essays, and make it clear that you've done your HW and you know NU is right for you. This is what I did (I never visited campus). I also wrote that I planned on visiting ASAP on the sheet that asks if you've ever visited campus.

send alot of supplemental ****

Going off of this...will it make a difference if you attend every little thing they have? I am from the east coast and have made it out to Chicago twice and been to a bunch of info. sessions in my area. NU is my #1 choice so I hope that they will see that (besides applying ED).

i've heard that northwestern does not track calls to the admissions office, etc. like some schools do, however when you tour campus they do ask you to fill out an information form so that much they might consider

I took two classes here this summer. How much will that help? (I go to a Chicagoland school where 30%+ of students apply to NU (and about 40-45% get in) and live on the North Shore. How does all this factor in? (oh, I can also get a supplemental rec from one of my professors, he asked to do it).

Well, it looks like I'll be taking a trip after all. My parents said it was okay, so I'll be visiting in three weeks.

illinois_kid, out of curiosity, are you at new trier?

Nope... IMSA. But I live less than 3 miles from the Norris Center on NU's campus.

I'm at Northwestern, did not show any dem. interest

lol im from stevenson

^^I know people who went there. Man, Northwestern would be a dream school if mom and dad lived more than 30 minutes away. And if less than 1/2 of my school applied there.

yeah i live in Lake Forest and i just wish i didnt drive by NW when im goin to my friends houses lol...makes it seem REAL close, TOO close even ;-(
