Is there any way to show NU how much I want to go there

): I'm below average for stats

UW: 3.8
ACT: 30 Retaking and studying. [I find it a test you need to study for or remember things from freshman/sophomore year].

APPLYING ED

Maybe going for a visit? I ask this nice admissions lady through email a lot of questions and she asked me for my full name so I'm guessing that's good.

I’d visit. My impromptu visit after touring UChi (what a turnoff) ended up being a really good positive simply because my essay just wouldn’t have been the same without it. I sat on the Northwestern beach and relaxed with a notebook and a pen.

Deff visiting this summer.(: Thank you.

I never visited Northwestern before I applied, decided not to interview, and got accepted. I knew that I was a solid applicant to begin with having been admitted to many of NU’s peer schools, but I’m convinced that my very personal “Why Northwestern” essay helped to really clarify why it was an ideal fit. I never really thought about NU until well into application mode, and it instantly grew on me. My essay was key. I mentioned specific professors and courses and managed to show how I saw NU in the scope of myself. I didn’t ramble on how great the school was though but rather how everything culminated into a perfect experience for me. They are looking for students not sycophants :stuck_out_tongue:

But visiting and interviewing would definitely help your case to show an interest no matter what my anecdote said to prove otherwise. Maybe try getting in touch with a faculty member in your intended major. You’re applying ED - they know you’re seriously interested. All you have to do is prove it by personalizing the school.

i think if you REALLY want to go to Northwestern, it will definitely show in your writing. At least that’s how I feel I got in.

Their supplement is all about telling them what makes you want to go to Northwestern, so yes. Also, I got in with an ACT score of 30, so don’t sweat it.

What Emory University says (may apply to NU): “It is important that an applicant has done research on Emory, whether through ordering a Video Visit, talking with a representative at a college fair, attending an information session in the student’s city or at his or her school, or visiting our campus.”

NW by contrast says demonstrated interest is only “considered.” So if you considered doing of the above suggestions by Emory. Research the course catalog to find out what exactly it is about major xyz that you think could best prepare you for the workplace, and mention that in your essay. Find out about clubs and organizations, yearly events, and suburban Chicago. Knowing what it is specifically that you like about a school is helpful for essays and for your own peace of mind/decision (although you already made yours!). Good luck!

I definitely want to get across why I want to go there. It will be hard because I suck at writing. I am totally a Math/Science person.

Seeing as I have from September-November to work solely on the NU essays and have the amazing help of the English teachers at my school, I’ll try my best.

I think a 30 is great but I saw people with better stats than me getting denied.):

If you apply ED, they’ll know you really want to go there. Otherwise, any contact with the university – visiting, college nights, alumni interview, etc. doesn’t hurt.

“I think a 30 is great but I saw people with better stats than me getting denied.):”

It might be because the supplemental essay didn’t fare too well. I know of UPenn, Harvard, Columbia, Duke, Dartmouth, and other top school bound students who all got waitlisted/rejected at Northwestern, even after getting accepted to crazy amounts of good schools (think every Ivy League).

I am applying to NU Ed too, and you and I have pretty much the exact same stats. Definitely make sure you visit! Especially if you are insecure about your writing ability, seeing yourself at the school (physically) will really help you depict it in your essay. I pretty much know the website by heart, I have watched every youtube video concerning the school and read about alumni, classes, and current events there. I havent visited yet but I have become as knowledgeable about NU as I can outside of that. I reccomend the same for you. Good luck!!!
