Hey I am looking to apply to Emory next year and I live in the northeast. I can't afford to visit the school so how can I demonstrate interest aside from requesting the video and other information? Also does Emory place a lot of emphasis on demonstrated interest? Thanks

Register on Emory’s website. Emory sends its reps out to other states, so attend a local info session if you can. And, yes, Emory does use demonstrated interest as an admission factor (how much, I have no idea).

Last year, I think that it was in August, Emory admissions reps had an info session in Burlington, MA. Register asap and check their website.

See if schools in your area are having a representative visit

yes, if I recall, Emory had a session in SoCal in mid-August.

i live in the northeast also and did not visit emory until AFTER i had been accepted. there are other ways to show interest in a school without actually seeing it first-hand. what i did was contact admissions reps and asked them questions that could help aid me in the college process. i also applied to emory largely because i was intrigued by a particular professor’s research. i contacted that professor and spoke to them about it and in my essay on my application explained why i wanted to work with so-and-so and what specific aspects of their research interested me. i think when an adcom sees that you’re applying to their school for a strong reason (as opposed to throwing out applications to all the top-20 schools), they know that you’re seriously interested.
