I just denied for the dorms since I'm a transfer student. This reallly sucks for me because I'm only 19 and I needed to get a lottery slot to get a spot in a freshman dorm specifically(when is what I wanted). Does anyone know any tricks or anything I can do to get a spot in FT??

live in isla vista. I just visited ucsb yesterday and boy was that street right by the ocean cliffs in IV trashed.

call the private dorms and see if they still have space. Fountainbleu and Tropicana.

try Fountainbleu and Tropicana. those two house freshman also.

That street is DP. It's the day after finals and the first day of summer vacation, pretty much expected.

I've heard bad things about the private dorms, bad food, shady people, etc., should I just consider living in IV? I don't understand why I can't just get a spot in housing though, I mean I'm sure there'll be at least one spot that will be vacant through someone canceling or not turning in their contract on time.

Is there any reason you picked a freshman dorm? I tried transferring to the freshman dorms during the regular year and the housing department was very uncooperative with my request. I'd call and get put on the waiting list for Manzanita Village on San Rafael.

Fontainblue is definately a poor choice if good food, furnishings, and/or studying are important to you at all. Tropicana Gardens however has a reputation for being far nicer, though I've heard that it fills up rather quickly.

i've heard there are a record number of applicants this year for on campus housing, so alot of people missed out...

I got awarded housing at Santa Ynez. It's an apartment though, which i prefer. Is there a reason why you want to live in the dorms so badly? If you're worried about meeting new people, i dont think you'll have that problem if you live in IV.
