Denied Villanova - Looking for Options

I applied ED Villanova and was unfortunately denied.

I have good grades all As and a few B+
3.92 gpa weighted scale
low SAT scores (1200)
many extracurricular activities and community service hours
4 year varsity athlete and captain senior year

Does anyone have any other recommendations for schools that are similar to Villanova located anywhere in the US?

Please let me know! Thanks!

What do you want to study? Syracuse might be worth looking at, including the Catholic influence. In general, easier admission and much more merit based aid. Your grades would make you competitive.

How about St. Louis University?

What do you like about Villanova?
Financial restrictions?
Are you a US or international student?

University of Dayton reminds me of Villanova. It’s Catholic (Marianist, not Augustinian), similar in size, pretty campus.

Maybe Providence College, Univ of Scranton, Fordham, Fairfield Univ

I loved going to a D1, well known, and academically competitive school. I also liked the location of it as I am from New England looking to go further. No financial resitrictions I just loved the school itself. US high school student

Agree regarding Fordham and Providence, not familiar with the others. Typically schools in the Midwest have higher acceptance rates than the schools on the “coasts” (ex. Marquette, Creighton).

St Joes is close to Nova its Jesuit…much smaller, Fairfield is AWESOME in CONN have 2 kids there…Loyola Maryland is great too…another Jesuit school

Seconding UScranton, Fordham, Providence, Fairfield. Perhaps Marist?
UDayton, Creighton, Gonzaga, Saint Louis University, Xavier-Cincinnati, if you can travel further.

Siena College might be another option.

Dayton is a great suggestion. Have a friend that went there and he raves about the overall community feel, quality education, etc. He was hoping to go to Notre Dame but was very happy with UD as an alternative.

Dayton really is a good suggestion! I know someone there now who loves it, and also a friend who graduated years ago who also loved her experience and has never had trouble getting a job. Like Villanova it has D1 sports, and good school spirit.

I don’t know where you live, but I’ve heard Dayton gives a scholarship for books if you visit.

Fordham would be another reach IMO – the school values standardized tests and the OP is under the 25th percentile for SAT scores.

I’d look at other Jesuit schools many of which have been noted above. Fairfield might be a very good match for a person who likes Villanova. http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/

And look at some test optional schools since the OPs GPA looks to be well above standardized test results https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional/state

Might be a little late to add this with deadlines fast approaching, but have you considered the College of the Holy Cross?

It’s a DI Jesuit school that’s test-optional. The application deadline is 1/15, but it might be worth looking into. They strongly encourage, but don’t require, an interview which obviously wouldn’t be possible. However, I believe there is an optional essay that you could do. (There’s some great info in the discussion threads on the Holy Cross forum.)

Loyola University Maryland, in Baltimore, is another mid-Atlantic Jesuit school.
RD deadline is January 15 but maybe if you or your GC contacts them they’d cut you a little slack in case some materials arrive late.

I’ve hardly ever known anyone who went to U. of Dayton to not love the place, but it is known as a party school (mostly beer. not so much liquor or drugs). Xavier (Cincinnati) is a wonderful school, too, but with a more muted social scene.
