Dentist at school?

We just got a notice that our long time dentist is retiring (somewhat abruptly - DS was supposed to have an appointment in two weeks!). I’m debating whether to find a new dentist for him in our area, or just look for someone near school, as he’ll spend the majority of the next 4 years in that area. Anyone BTDT and have pros/cons to share?

We always just did it when they were at home. Made it easier with scheduling, transportation, follow-up, etc. They always seemed so busy during the academic year that I didn’t try to squeeze routine dental/medical into that time period and between two kids there was only one sports-related dental emergency.

How far is home from school?

My kids also saw the dentist when they were home. Two visits/year were no issue to schedule during breaks. If there was an emergency then we would have found someone near the college to handle it.

We also made all the kids dentist and orthodontist appointments when the kids were home on breaks. They hated missing class or appointments for any type of dr appointment (endocrinologist, physical therapy etc…).

Yup. I agree with the others. Find a new dentist at home. I did/do all my check-ups on breaks. If there’s an emergency at school, the health center has a list of local dentists other students have used.

Agree with everyone else. You’ll want the dentist beyond the next 4 years in any case, and generally, these are appointments that can wait until breaks.

Kids come home frequently enough to take care of dental works and regular checkups at home.

Most schools will, however, know of a local dentist for emergencies.
