dentistry & suicide

why do you think dentists have the highest suicide rate?

They deliver pain each and every day. People hate to see them.

well doesn’t that apply to many other careers as well?

probably because they have to go through so much school

i dont understand why anyone would complain about going to the dentist. the dentist is only going to help you get better, same goes with a doctor

Because it seems like a boring and menial job. Also, I’ve never met anyone who wanted to do dentistry because they liked the subject matter or wanted to help people. It’s always because it’s a fairly easy (compared to other specialties) job and it pays very well.

My two best friends are studying dentistry because they say they like it, and they have small hands, so they’re ergonomically designed to be good dentists. :)

Lots of schooling. Bad breath. Kids bite. And nobody ever asks “Is there a dentist in the house?”

"why do you think dentists have the highest suicide rate? "

Subject to debate. I’ve read the same about anesthesiologist, psychiatrist, etc.

I suspect for dentists and anesthesiologist, it may be access to certain drugs. There are no failed suicides with those drugs. No suicide “attempts”. Those drugs “get 'er done”.

they stare at people’s teeth all day. i’d hate that.
