how popular is pre-dentistry
i know it depends on school, but generally
cause pre-medicine seems to be very popular and hard to get in...compare to pre dentistry...

Dentists have the highest suicide rate of any profession.

I think that is a myth.

I would try to talk to audiophile(audiofile?), he's a parent on this board who is a very knowledgable dentist.

wow, suze. that totally answers his question...

Dentistry continues to be one of the most popular health professions among undergraduate students, and with good reason. Dentists (depending on specialization and type of practice) have a great deal of control over their schedule and office hours. There are fewer emergencies to contend with, and dentists are rarely faced with the death of a patient. In addition, dentists usually contend with insurance issues less frequently than medical doctors do. Because of its popularity, admission to dental school is extremely competitive.

^taken from University of Alabama's website.

pre-dent is highly competetive because (like premed) gpa and board exams are the main factors that get you in. The pre-dent requisites (classes) sometimes overlap the premed requisites so it becomes even more competetive to maintain a high gpa. however, i think that getting into dental school is slightly easier than getting into medical school

that is sad........
then what is possible undergraduate major for dental school......
oh also is it hard to get into college if i apply popular major??
cause i really want to go one of ucla, usc, or ucsd

yeah is predentistry considered a major or do i have to major in like chemistry or something?

Yea, I've heard that, but does anyone know why. I'm planning on bieng a dentist, and this kind of scares me.

If you actually googled it, you'd find that it is just an urban legend, like pop rox and soda.

oh also can anyone name some colleges that have pre-dent???
all i know is ucla....

if i were you, i'd major in something else than pre-dent. I mean, schools don't care, but you might as well major in something youre interested in if you're in college. You can still get all the prereqs done. but, to answer your question, i think pacific has a predent program too.

Does NYU have predent?

can i major in chem and still become a dentist or it is better to go predent?

if anything, it's better to major in chem. it'll prepare you well for the rigors of d-school; i've heard the academics dental school are extremeley hard.

My cousin majored in something in Pharmacy, and hes going to dental schol next year...
I think I'd want to do that also, since I'd get a little glimpse of the medical world, but I wouldn't be competing for predent.
Anyway, someone awnser my previous question. Does NYU have predent, and some type of Pharmacy major?

so you guys think its better to major in any sort of science than pre-dent...

Probably, makes you more interesting in dental school admissions and would give you a broader base in science (also enables you to change your mind later on). In terms of schools, I believe Notre Dame had a 100% acceptance rate into dental school the past few years.

Find me a college that has "pre-dentistry" first.

Major in what you're interested in. If you want to major in history, do it. Just fulfill the pre-reqs and you'll be fine.

pre-dent is what im interested in
but what im thinking is that pre-dent major would be very tough to get into regardless of name of school...

Besides, most schools DONT OFFER Pre-dent.
