I feel like there’s a pattern to how it should be filled. I doubt they check for everyone of your twelve choices (for every student) and yet they still insist that you fill all the spots.

Que pasa?

If you insist for a single and then put a double in there, which takes precedent?

Oh here you go. My bad. Is that really how it goes though; They go through all 12 chronologically in matching you?

( For example I think everyone’s dream is a studio or 1-bedroom in Watt but lets face it, even as a rising junior your chances are slim. Do you still put those in first choice IN CASE one happens to be free? Or should you list your first choice as a believable one?)

(And what if your additional requisite isn’t available at all 12 choices; say an interior bathroom)

(In the end I’d be willing to roll the dice with Barnard housing but should that be last or…BWAH!)

Take a harder look at the form -there’s a “special requirements” field, where you can put “only put me in a north-facing room” or “My explosive diarrhea requires me to be within 30 feet of a bathroom at all times” or something. You can be as narrow as you want, but there’s still a human matching all of those requirements to available options.

You don’t know how sweet that private bathroom can be. I’m currently befriending a guy just because he’ll be across from me next year and has a private shower (on a floor with like 15 people and 1 common).

I think Undisclosed’s question was how to fill those 12 choices. Like if there’s a procedure or trick to them?

My venture would be ‘I don’t think so’ but I’m no Dezera.

yeah i doubt they insist you put down 12 choices. just put down wherever you’d like to transfer into, like whatever would be an upgrade in your eyes, and stop whenever there’s no more things you’d prefer to your current room.

I applied for a housing assignment transfer over the summer and just got my new assignment by email.

The only problem is that the floor of the assignment (9th floor of Nussbaum) was not in the housing lottery for some reason and it’s impossible for me to see the layout of my corridor.
The only corridor that’s available on Housing portal is like 9D and I’m 9B.

Is there still a way to see who is on your floor and get the full layout?

9 and 4 seem to be identical, just look at the layouts on 4

ask them if 9B is a mistake, there doesn’t seem to be anyone living there, perhaps they meant 9D. Alex Yagoda is your RA, he’s chilled as far as I can tell.

you should be able to log in. The RA rooms are listed on the residence halls’ website, and I checked who is in the RA room through this website above.

Yes, I’m fairly certain they’ve added that (those?) new wings to the roster last minute- which is why I can’t seem to learn anything about it. I was hoping for Watt but the chances of getting transferred there are decimal, I’m aware.

I’ve emailed housing. We’ll see.

One question though- how many single studios are there in Watt?

^there’s no way you’ll get a watt single as a junior(?). If you have a nussbaum single, you’re set. They’re usually good size, proper hard wood floor, shared private bathroom and small kitchen / lounge. Very high bathroom/people ratio. I think you have yourself a good deal, if you have a single, if you have a double, then I understand.

Is he a younger brother of Danny Yagoda? Danny’s my friend (and fellow red sox fanatic), would be funny if the whole Yagoda clan was headed to Columbia.

As for the actual issue, Nussbaum is great living. I like the rooms, I like the apartments, the person/bathroom ratio is great and the small kitchens can lead to some good cooperation between everyone and savings from cooking. The lobby is nice and you get your own Super rather than relying on maintenance. The location is pretty sweet too.

Watt singles are the holy grail of the housing system and are nearly always the first things to disappear in general selection. I think there are 29 of them (6 floors, 5 each except the 1st floor), and RAs probably have 3 of them, plus an RLC or somebody on the 1st floor. If I had to guess I’d say 25 are in the lottery. Don’t set your hopes there, the odds are too long.

True, true! Charlestown native myself, grew up there, but in New Hampshire now. Excited for Columbia next year, but I’m nervous about all the Yankees fans in the area! Oh well, just a greater chance to show some pride for the Sox.

Aaaand that was not productive to this thread at all. Sorry.
