Does anyone have any ideas when the Engineering Department scholarships will be emailed and/or mailed?
If you need that info to make a decision, I would call tomorrow and ask. (I’m not sure if they will be in Good Friday)
Thanks @maryversity. I thought it was supposed to be around this time. Do you think it will be an email or letter?
My son didn’t get an incoming freshman engineering scholarship, so I don’t know. When he got the departmental scholarships (after matriculation) he was notified by email.
@Astro77 We were at the preview for the Engineering School on 3/29/2018. A representative said engineering scholarships should be out in the near future (around this time). She said they were aiming for April 1 release but it did not seem likely this year, but the announcement should be out soon.
@LotcaJH thanks that is very helpful! So hopefully this week.
Has there been any new information regarding these scholarships?
We haven’t heard anything!
We haven’t heard anything assuming (1) we are not getting any engineering’s scholarship(s), or (2) UMD has not made the announcement yet.
I called the engineering scholarship department last week and was told all scholarship receepiants have been notified…sorry:)
@momtwotwo thanks that’s good to know. My D got some merit money and we’re in-state, so we can’t complain!
@momtwotwo Thank you for the information. D got some merit $ and has committed to UMD, excited to become a Terp regardless.
From what I understand and was told from sitting through a couple presentations, there were a very limited number of scholarships offered to the freshman engineering class. There were ten Clark Scholars recipients and about another 25 Clark Legacy scholarships. There may have been one or two additional large scholarship recipients but nothing was mentioned specifically about these. My daughter will also be attending Clark school next year so hopefully a lot of female students in the upcoming class.
FWIW, there are ALWAYS a very limited number of departmental scholarships offered to INCOMING freshman. Once matriculated, all students interested in applying for a departmental merit award can apply for one. There is one application, available in the spring, for awards for the following year. There are a lot more awards available after the freshman year, but amounts vary (no clue of range) and many have a financial component in addition to the merit eligibility. Here is a list of the scholarships just for engineering students http://advancement.umd.edu/celebration/listScholarships.php?div=7fb1789cc47ce66e1b63a5d2ff79475866c739a8. While there is no description of how much each award is, you can see there are a lot. They do their best to match eligible students to an appropriate merit scholarship.
Congrats to both your children for their scholarships! As @maryversity stated there are more opportunities once our children are enrolled. The person I spoke to at the Engineering scholarship office took allot of time to explain the many opportunities the student have for scholarships. In addition to the link that @maryversity provided she directed me to outside scholarship opportunities found here: http://www.ursp.umd.edu/scholarships/additional-scholarships. She also directed me here: http://www.ursp.umd.edu/scholarships/current-students. Hope that helps!
Also note that if your student has been involved in robotics competitions, there are scholarships available for those students as well…Here is the link for VEX participants https://www.roboticseducation.org/competition-teams/scholarships/ and here is list of scholarships for FIRST https://www.firstinspires.org/scholarships
@momtwotwo @maryversity Thank you both for the information. We are in state and D is happy to receive some merit $. The above information will come in handy for her once she matriculates. She has also submitted her Flexus application. Fingers crossed!
