Department Scholarships

im currently a high school junior in North carolina and i pretty much need a full ride to go to auburn. i believe i can likely get the heritage scholarship that cover 2/3 of tuition, and am hoping for the department scholarships from the engineering department to cover the rest. However, it says you have to have your admission deposit in before you can be considered for these scolarships. Does this mean you have to commit to Auburn to be eligible for these scholarships or can you wait and see if you receive enough aid before deciding.

What are my chances for scholarships.
White Male
Chemical Engineering
1320/1940 SAT Will take again
Taking the ACT in June
4.00 Unweighted
4.95 weighted
Decent EC’s
3/278 class rank
Any hope for a full ride considering the heritage along with a few department scholarships.

I would take the SAT again to get it up a little higher (that score's on the low side for the heritage 2/3 tuition schol), and see what you get on the ACT as well (looking for a 30+). Everything else looks good. Make sure you apply early! Getting all your stuff in (including scores) before October 1 is excellent. If you must take tests again in October, do so, but make sure Auburn gets them by Dec 1 or we're not going to look at them for scholarship judgments.
As for paying the admissions deposit, unfortunately it's $200 non-refundable but you don't HAVE to go to auburn if you submit it. You just forfeit the money. It's Auburn's way of racking up the cash I guess. Also, if you were wanting to apply for on-campus housing you would need to submit the deposit around this time also so that you can get your housing application, and turn it in before January (housing starts to fill up in mid-January, esp. men's).
For departmental scholarships, you fit all the requirements for general eng. scholarships. If you click on "chemical engineering" to the side of the main eng. scholarship page, it also lists scholarships specifically for chemical. There's even one that give preference to non-AL residents. I think you will be okay. Keep up the good work!
