DePaul or SUNY Buffalo?

I'm having a very hard time deciding where to go to school next semester!

I'm from NY state so Buffalo would be pretty cheap. The thing is after visiting the campus I didn't exactly love it. This makes me nervous because I really want to go some place I know I'll like.

On the other hand DePaul has a solid business program, and Chicago is a really cool city so I think I'd like it. But DePaul's a lot more expensive. (around 14k a year more with tuition/and living costs) I have 2 years left so total DePaul would be about 28k more.

Any advice on what to do? Should I try to take out a loan for DePaul? Or just go to UB even though I'm not crazy about it.

Are you transferring?

Did DePaul offer you any financial aid? How much would your total indebtedness be after leaving both?

Estimated CoA at SUNY Buffalo is around $22,000 a year - so if you had to borrow the whole thing, that’s about $44,000. A little more than normally advised, but doable.

DePaul’s CoA is a bit harder to find, but I did find that their tuition & fees alone is about $35,000 per year. That’s $70,000 over two years. It seems like the average on-campus housing is about $8-9,000 a year; I imagine it’ll cost you around $10-12,000 if you can’t get on-campus housing and have to find an apartment in Chicago. Assuming you get the cheapest meal plan (Lite = $3,500 a year) that’s a total CoA of about $81,500-$85,500 depending on your options - and that’s not even including the other food and incidental expenses you’ll incur at DePaul.

So if you have to borrow everything, SUNY Buffalo is the clear winner, since $80-85K is too much debt for DePaul. You can always go live in Chicago after you graduate.

Have you visited DePaul or is it a grass is greener situation?
