I am having trouble deciding which school would be a better choice for me. I am an undecided student, and really have no idea of what I will major in. It could be either business, pre med, or journalism. The pro's for Depaul are its in the city, which I love, and its a smaller school. I also was offered a 45, 000 scholarship for 4 yrs. I am just worried a little about the competitiveness of the school and its eduacation. Education is very important to me and I don't know how depaul is with undecided students. All the other factors are good though. I have heard great things about Illinois. how its a good school and all. It's just a little big for me. the location is not that good, but the eduaction is top notch. The problem with Illinois is that I did not recieve any scholarship from them and I am an out of state student. so, the tution will be expensive.

Illinois has a better academic reputation. Having said that, the two offer very difference experiences. Illinois is a more traditional college experience with its own campus, people into its sports teams, greek system, etc. DePaul is in a great area of Chicago, but is much more of a city experience, much like NYU. Several people commute and it’s more integrated into the fabric of Chicago rather than having a nice self-contained campus. So, if you think you’d enjoy a more city experience at the expense of perhaps a sense of community and academic prestige, choose DePaul. If you want a more traditional college experience, but perhaps a more isolated location (with 40,000 others), then choose Illinois. However, I have no idea about your financial situation, so if you can’t afford IL, then this point is moot. If I was simply going based on academics, I’d choose Illinois though. But if it put a huge strain on my family financially, saving $45,000/yr isn’t such a bad deal.
