Finance major here. About to attend DePaul in the fall as a sophomore after attending a year of community college. Due to my background I am pretty ignorant about the differences between universities - simply going on the path that my sister did. Due to the nature of my degree choice, I think it would be best if it were to be located in the heart of an urban city.
I recently looked into UIC as an option. The rankings from what I’ve seen are very similar to DePaul. But the tuition is $15,000 vs DePaul’s $37,000. Is DePaul really worth the money for a Finance major or is it a rip-off? They only gave me a $3,000 scholarship for my grades. How much does UIC give in scholarship money?
Please give me some comparisons of these two schools and just generally your thoughts. If you provide some reference links that would be even better.
I have researched UIC Vs. DePaul extensively. Depaul is cleaner and has smaller class sizes, but no, almost 20k difference a year is NOT worth it. UIC is good school and has a pretty reputable finance degree. wherever you go, at the end of the day, it only maybe matters for your first job. after that it is your experience and how you build the resume is what matter for a job. Take the cheaper school and save yourself a life time of paying back debt. And trust me, if you go to DePaul and getting down the average joe path of getting a mortgage a car payment etc…etc latter in life, you will be indebted and paying on those loans for a VERY long time.
hope it helped.
Assuming you are an Illinois resident, UIC is significantly cheaper than DePaul. UIC gives very little merit aid. They do have more financial based aid. UIC, like most public schools, don’t have many true scholarships. Apply as soon as you can for financial aid there because it is first come, first serve.
Just remember come the end of the day, experience is the most important thing in forwarding your career.
