Depaul

Can anyone tell me anything about Depaul. From the website and other places, it looks like an awesome school. Are there any negatives i may be missing?

It may not be up to the standards of people on CC, but my friend's sister goes there and loves it. Sorry I can't be more specific, but there's one positive testimony for you.

Very diverse. Most people smoke. Catholic, but not really so much. New gym facilities. Nice location within chicago.
As for my oppinion and the oppinion of many others on CC, not really up to standards here. I wouldnt go there, but you might need to realize that most people here are genius, or just really smart.

If ur gpa is in range for depaul (a 3.3 is solid) then yes it is a great school, but in comparison to schools the most people apply to here, it doesnt compare. Not to try ragging on it or anything.

by looking at some of ur previous posts, where you say Rice seems like a fit, you would be a damned fool to go to depaul. I wouldnt even look at it if you think you have a good shot at Rice. And if you want to do music stuff, definitely look at Oberlin. Oberlin has one of the top5 best conservatories in the US for sure.

a damned fool. yea, seems about right.

I have a friend who goes there and she likes it...I hope I am not butchering her comments on the school, but I remember he saying things like it is really diverse, a commuter school, and the social scene is mostly off campus.

DePaul is a good school. Everyone I know who goes there loves it. Their business and finance programs are particularly strong, and you have to give them props for location (both campuses are amazing). There are a number of commuter students, but the social life is always alive, and a lot of people are involved in various school organizations. So it's not really too much of an issue.

Ignore the comments about how it's "below" CC standards. A lot of the people here are ridiculous. If you like DePaul and would be happy there, that's all that matters. You wouldn't be a "fool" to go there.

I think the OP was just asking if it's a good safety.

Actually world changer, he said he liked rice in a previous thread, so yes it would be completely foolish to go to DePaul over Rice (he felt he could get into rice).

Rice is a better school, yes, but I wouldn't say that it's foolish to apply to a less prestigious school if you feel that you would be happy there. If he's set on Rice, he's probably just looking at DePaul as a safety, anyway.

Did I say I thought I could get into Rice? Man, I sound arrogant. That's not what I meant if I did. Truth be told, I probably would have some difficulty getting in, my GPA is not a 4.0. I do know I said I liked Rice and I do kind of think of Depaul as a safety considering their semi-low averages. Not to take away from Depaul! I think it's great that they are taking a big step in trying to admitt many first generations. I must also add that I am not only interested in studying music but also the sciences.
