So I got accepted into depaul but i don't know if it's good enough academically. So far my reach schools are u of chicago and boston college, and my "match" schools i think are marquette, fordham and saint louis (which i got accepted to) but i don't know whether or not depaul would challenge me enough compared to these.

Where do you live? I live in illinois and it has an excellent reputation in illinois and surrounding states, and an even greater reputation if you plan on staying in Chicago.

Don't expect a ton of people to have heard of it out east or west, though. I know people who go there and love it. Academics wise they are pretty solid.. You would get a great education there. Not UC good, but still pretty good.

I honestly don't know about DePaul so can't comment on that part. I would recommend you look at University of Dayton. It's very good academically and costs are comparable to DePaul.

DePaul is not in the top tier of Chicago schools, and it doesn't intend to be. It's mission has always been to educate the middle class rather than the elite. Some of its schools are top notch, especially music and theater. Their business school is quite good. In general, it offers a solid education. Among my childrens' friends, the ones who have attended are typically B or B+ students with an ACT score in the mid-twenties. They do like the school, and, especially, the city experience.

D is a freshman at DePaul's School of Commerce - it was her safety school (hs GPA was 3.8 with an ACT of 30). She got lots of merit $$ but would have attended even without the cash. So far she loves the city (concerts and politics - she went to Obama's victory rally on election night) and the classes have been challenging enough, especially in the business school. She is already scoping out internships in Chicago with an eye on employment in CHicago some day.

So I'd say that the academics are what you make of them (the honors classes are rumored to be tough) and if you're planning to stay in the area, the alumni network is top-notch.
