DeSales vs Lehigh University

These are my top 2 schools. I love Lehigh's academic rigor, options and spirit but I don't like the surrounding city. I like DeSales for it's surrounding, community and academics. I feel that DeSales doesn't offer me much for what I may be paying. Plus I feel Lehigh has more quality. Can anyone compare the 2? Thank you.

I don’t know DeSales, but I do know Lehigh and think highly of it. The amount of time you spend outside of Lehigh’s beautiful campus will be minimal your first year. You’ll hardly know there’s a city there from high up on the Lehigh hillside. A very good school that takes very good care of its students. Lots of interdisciplinary at Lehigh. Lots of programs and course offerings. One drawback for me was the Greek and party scene. Students work hard but many of them party to excess. If you’re not a drinker, you need to investigate opps for non-drinkers and non-Greeks at Lehigh. By the time you finish your first year and are ready for the odyssey into Bethlehem, you perhaps will have constructed your Lehigh bias against the “townies.” It’s unfortunate but true that colleges often have oppositional relps with their town neighbors. Lehigh is not alone in this, and it’s not entirely the responsibility of the college kids.

That I’m a Catholic from eastern PA and a professor and have never heard of DeSales other than on CC might tell you something about its reputation. Or not. The school was only a couple dozen years old when I left PA.

Thank for the info! Yeah I love Lehigh, I visited DeSales and I just wanted to know more about it. I’m catholic too. Lehigh is still my top. I still want to know about the culture life later on in the year and financial aid. I applied to the dap program to learn more about the feel. :)

If you’re competitive for Lehigh, look into Bucknell, Gettysburg, Dickinson, Lafayette, Franklin&Marshall, even Susquehanna and UScranton… before you look into DeSales.
What do you want to major in?

Mathematics with a minor or something in actuarial science. Any classes/minors that will help me to be an actuary.
