Desktop and Laptop Security

I currently have fairly high end gaming desktops and laptops, and intend on bringing them to the dorm when I head off to college. What are the best recommended ways of protecting and preventing theft of my computers? Obviously, for the laptop, the best method would most likely be to keep it with me at all times and possibly even a Kensington lock. But as for the desktop, what is the best method, especially since the components on the inside are the most valuable and anyone with fair knowledge of computers will be able to open up the case and remove them? Additionally, how about monitors?

It is likely that nobody in your dorm will be interested in “parting out” your desktop. In fact most probably think they’ll hurt themselves if they try to break into your computer.

As for the laptop, just keep it with you is all. Don’t buy a Kensington lock, leaving it unattended in a public place, even if it’s locked, is never as good as just having it with you.

Close and lock the door to your room. Don’t leave your computer unattended in a public place.

Do a case-mod for the computer case. If you don’t know how to precisely do that, just inquire on a tech forum.

It’s likely your computer has a hole in the back of the PC that allows a lock to be put in so that no one can open up the computer case unless you open the lock. That way no one will be able to open up your case and steal your graphics card and other hardware.
