the problem is that I don't know wether to apply at cornell ED or at rensselaer. I don't want to waste the early decision on a college that's likely to reject me.i can improve my sat scores but when I will be taking the test,it will be past the ED deadline.thank you!

What can you financially afford? If finances are an issue, I wouldn’t apply ED at all because you may be stuck paying more than you can afford. Otherwise, I would apply ED to whichever one you like the most and would rather attend. If they’re about equal in your mind, then apply both RD.

@Ranza123 where do you think I will have a bigger chance to get in with my current sat grades

RPI is easier to get into than Cornell; however, that shouldn’t be the question. The question should be where you would be happiest.

@Ranza123 after checking colleges, I would be happy to enroll in one of these 3(no preference) do you think I have a shot ?

You don’t have a great shot at Cornell. Suggest you steer towards RPI or other engineering schools

@sgopal2 I am applying at cornell to major in applied math not engineering.how about applied math at berkeley?

Applied math at Berkley is probably harder to be accepted than Cornell as I believe it is an impacted major. Check

@sgopal2 @ranza123 it’s not an impacted major,i checked. however, I once read that berkeley and cornell doesn’t consider your intended major when you’re applying to the college of art and sciences(you get admitted at the college of art and sciences, nit a specific departement) I think that would help me,what do you think?

I’m not sure how much your intended major affects your chances of getting into CAS as I was an undeclared major. I know that you can’t actually apply for your major until you’ve gotten to Cornell and have taken some required classes for the major. But you do select an intended major on your application and, although you can switch it later on, I’m not sure how much weight the adcoms put on your intended major.

They do consider interest. What if 3000 kids applied, all demonstrating interest in chemical engineering. Do you think all of them would be accepted, even if highly qualified? No they will take the top X% and leave the others to the reject pile.
