ok. UT Austin requires 2 years of the same foreign language, so I’d have to take Spanish regardless this year. I guess if I start to like it more and more I’ll just take it in grade 12 too, but tell my councilor to make sure I have it second semester, so it’ll mean less in the application process. UT Austin recommends 3 years of a foreign language, but requires 2.

UT Austin has no history requirement, but Harvard recommends 3 years. But, I’m not too keen on taking a history course. If I do, it will be in grade 12…and I’ll ask my councilor which history course is the easiest.

Spanish probably won’t drop my average significantly. I got a high 90s mark last year, but that was because we got TONS of bonus marks on stuff, so I would’ve had maybe mid-90s or something. But that spanish teacher is now my guidance councilor, and we have a new teacher. Idk how she will mark though. She only has one gr.11 spanish class, which is next semester. Thank god, or else I wouldn’t be able to take it.

And about FA, if I miraculously get accepted to HYP, then their need blind policy will allow me to pay for my education. UT Austin will be fine to. My parents are moving there and they have a policy that if you live there for a year (in Texas) you can get in state tuition. So,after first year, I’ll pay the bare minimum (8k + board).

There are certain circumstances where you can’t take courses. History isn’t available to me because there isn’t time (I didn’t take any spares and had to do summer school and online school to accelerate a few courses). Schools will understand. Don’t kill yourself over taking every recommended course. Required ones are a different issue.

If you’re worried about mid 90s, what’s your class rank? You need a relative scale to compare to. Hell, it’s difficult to even score high 80s, low 90s in my school.

my rank is first, in gr.9 i had highest avg. by 1% i think, and last yr. only by .25%. So, there are others that get the really high grades too, that’s why I don’t want it to affect my rank, but I need at least the 2 years of one language so I think I’m gonna take spanish this yr.

Would you know if there are history courses online? And are they easy? Cause I guess, I could just do that if possible.

Admissions officer: OMG look at this amazing student! We definitely need to accept them for the class of 2015!
Admissions officer 2: Waiiiittt a minute…they’ve taken some M and O courses.
collective shunning

Aha don’t worry! This is never going to happen! ^^

I was in the same situation as you in the sense that there are very few U level courses offered at my school. In fact, I took the same grade 10 business course as you, as well as a whole slew of M courses.

…And you know what? I got accepted into a pretty prestigious college. ^^

If you’re still concerned, though, why not look at taking some U courses in e-class (or e-learning, depending on where you’re from), or in night or summer school?

yea, I am going to talk to my guidance counc. about online courses (i think this is what you were talking about when you said e-class, idont know the actualy name for it).

I need another history course, so instead of loading up on a crazy gr.12 schedule, i’ll see if I can take it online this year or next.

Bookninja, could you send me a short PM about where you got accepted, if you took IB/AP/A-level or w.e that thing is, if you took the AP tests, how many foreign language credits, how many history credits, your school district, your GPA…if you don’t mind, and a little run down of your gr.11/12 courses? I know this is a ton to ask of you, but if you don’t mind it’d be helpful to get a solid idea of what I should be doing/taking and be striving for.

And does anyone know if these e-class/online courses are easy? I assume they’d be easier. How would you write tests? Couldn’t you like look up answers online lmao, I’m confused.

Online classes are a pain in the ass. It’s assignment based. When I did careers and civics online, it was 3 assignments a day. (It was 4 week online course for both subjects during the summer). You’ll have an exam in the end where you have to show up at a school location to take it.

She got into Wellesley (checked her last few posts). Quick question bookninja, did you apply for FA?

oh ok, then I don’t think I wanna take history online if even Careers and civics was a lot of work

Anthropology/Sociology/Psychology (all one course) - M (very unique course at out school, but it’s only offered at M level)

I’m taking this one too!

The “rigor” thing is freaking me out, too. I took fashion last semester -0-.
The thing is, I took it because I’m interested in fashion design, and I also took Painting because I ike the visual arts…but how will the uni see this? I mean, the majority of the class in Fashion thought Marc Jacobs was the supreme god of fashion…- - it was a really brainless class and entirely justified the course being an O course…

I took gr 11 Law last year in the summer…OMG I never ever want to take an online course EVER again, my eyes glaze over just thinking about it…it was, reading dry dry info and then answering dry dry questions every day, and then in the last week, the teacher realizes that erm, we’re out of time! So then it was, reading a LOT of dry dry info and then answering a LOT of dry dry questions every day and every night…and I only got 90 in the course too T-T

So I ended up dropped Anthro./Soci./Phych. for Spanish next semester. My updated semester looks like this:
Per. 1 - Chemisty
Per. 2 - English (Enriched)
Per. 3 - Spanish
Per. 4 - Physics

I called UT and they NEED 2 years of the SAME foreign language. They said that if you are deficient you must complete the courses in high school somehow, or at a local university/community college, at UT, or at a community college in the summer before you enroll at UT.

So, I’m gonna save myself the headache and take it in high school. Anyways, I am deficient the 0.5 credit of Economics that UT requires, so I will have to fill out a deficiency form when I apply to UT and probably take it at a community college in Texas. (that is, if I end up going to UT).

Really dumb at UT, I would also need to take 4 history courses (2 Texas history and 2 US history or something like that) to fulfill their requirements. I need to do more research on this, but it seems like it will be another headache (don’t want history courses on top of a premed schedule)
