Hey all..
I am currently a second semester international freshman(chem engg major) at a small State University...i didnt have enough funds to go to a big name college,so i ended up here but neither am i intellectually satisfied here...nor are there any research opportunities..however i was thinking of transferring to Purdue/Minnesota/Wisconsin after my Sophomore year...my question is it common to transfer after sophomore year? Will i lose priority in the admissions process? Also,if i do not take any core chem engg classes at my current university will i lose any credits?

Don’t know the answers to your other questions, but transferring as an entering jr is pretty common.

Umm… if you did well during your college years, transferring as an incoming junior is often better as an incoming sophomore because you have more college history to show.
I didn’t quite understand the last question. If you took some general/common classes so far, they will most likely transfer as electives/cores etc.

Madison is kind of picky with transfer requirements. Just make sure you communicate with them and explain your situation and you should be alright. They don’t get overwhelmed with transfer applicants from outside of the UW system so you’ll get good personal attention as long as you let them know about your situation.

I don’t know much about Purdue or Minnesota, sorry.

Hey…thanks for the feedback…i meant to say i mailed the Purdue and they said that mostly, engg core courses have to be taken at Purdue. So if i start my Junior year i will probably lose some credits credits…but some of the courses i will be taking as a Sophomore are core courses…hence my question…will i be thrown back if i do my sophomore year here at my current university?

I’m currently a freshman at BU and I was admitted to Wisconsin recently for Fall 2010 sophomore transfer! I also received a letter from them stating that all 35 of my credits (including a Funk music Class) would most likely fully transfer!

Haha awesome…
