if i was accepted into destination dartmouth does that mean i will be pretty much accepted to dartmouth college?

While some students attend destination dartmouth and then are admitted, being extended an invitation and attending does not guarantee, that you will be admitted during the ED or RD cycles.

Keep in mind only a small segment of students even apply to destination dartmouth and is no where near representative of the diverse pool of the over 14,000 students that will apply for a spot in the class of 2011.

I would suggest looking up postings by abeautifulmistake, who went last year and thought all the way til the end he was going to be admitted,

No one can say for sure what kind of chance you will have because we don't know the applicant pool or the institutional mission to be used when shaping the class of 2011. Go, have a great time. If you still like dartmouth toss your hat in and let the process play it self out.

what is destination dartmouth?

It's called a number of different names: destination dartmouth , dartmouth direct, a summer visitation program for diversity- multicultural, geographic and economic for rising seniors.

The process is almost like and almost as competitive as applying to the college as hundreds of students apply for Destination Dartmouth. You write an essay, submit your transcript, SAT scores if available. It is too late to apply this year as they should be coming up to Hanover sometime next week or the week after.

If you are selected they will bring you to campus host you for a few days so that you will consider applying to Dartmouth. I know when my daughter applied, Dartmouth wasn't really on her radar, but when she went to Destinations, and came home Dartmouth was her first choice so from an admissions standpoint the process did what it was suppose to do.

I think that Dartmouth sends the letter to (at least they did when my Daughter applied) include a wide array of people. I do know a few kids that went up with her from NYC (definitely not all URMS) and are now 08's with her.

Being accepted to Destinations can "up" your chances to being admitted to Dartmouth (because it is a kind of first step to identify viable candidates) but nothing is guaranteed or even implied. But OTOH, there are people who never applied or did not get accepted to Destinations that still ended up being admitted and people who attend destination dartmouth and don't get admitted in the ED/RD pool.
