Received letter to apply to "Destination Dartmouth" program. 40 URMs will be selected to visit the campus in late July. Does anyome know or has participated in this program?

Hi iqq,

welcome to CC and the Dartmouth board.

If you are truly interested, fill out the application. The process is almost like and almost as competitive as applying to the college as hundreds of students apply for Destination Dartmouth. You write an essay, submit your transcript, SAT scores if available. If you are selected they will bring you to campus host you for a few days so that you will consider applying to Dartmouth. I know when my daughter applied, Dartmouth wasn't really on her radar, but when she went to Destinations, and came home Dartmouth was her first choice so from an admissions standpoint the process did what it was suppose to do.

I think that Dartmouth sends the letter to (at least they did when my Daughter applied) include a wide array of people. I do know a few kids that went up with her from NYC (definitely not all URMS) and are now 08's with her.

Being accepted to Destinations does "up" your chances to being admitted to Dartmouth (because it is a kind of first step to identify viable candidates). But OTOH, there are people who never applied or did not get accepted to Destinations that still ended up being admitted. I say go for it because you really have nothing to lose and Hanover is really great in the summer.

What's a URM?

Under Represented Minorities

Echo what sybbie said. I went this past august, and it moved Dartmouth from number nothing on my list to number one. Because its a small program, you get to see what the actual college is like, good and bad, unlike dimensions, where everybody puts on their happy face.

Be aware, I do know some 09 Destination kids who were not admitted, so don't just think your in if you get to go. Its def a boost, but no slacking off!!!!!!
