Many people believe senior year is the best time of your life, however after looking over my potential schedule I think that this is nothing more than a common misconception. I'm a high school junior now and we have to choose our classes for next year. I have an appointment with my couselor tommorow to make my decisions. I have a couple of questions and I also wanted to get as much input on the classes I'm taking. Any information/advice from previous experiences would be helpful. Every little bit helps, thanks in advance!

Gym/Physical Education
UMDNJ Medical Terminology/Emergency Care
AP English 4
AP Psychology
AP Biology
Pre-Calculus Honors
Physics Honors (Is physics required to get into college? I really wanted to take Anatomy and Physiology, but a lot of people are telling me school look down on transcripts without physics)

-If it makes any difference I'm a guy at your average public high school in NJ.
-I have a 3.6 GPA and ranked in the top 10% of my class.
-I haven't taken the SAT's yet (Plan to in March)
-I play soccer and tennis.
-I'm in your typical "nerd clubs" lol. (Chemistry Team, Academic Team, Math Team)
-I plan to go into college for nursing (Leaning towards going to Rutgers, but I'm open for anything)

Amazing schedule. I feel for you, and your social life. lol You aren’t going to have much of one.

I know Harvard says a year of Bio, Chem, Physics, and an advanced course. My college I want to go to says, two years of either bio, chem, or physics. So, look at your college. I would look at Rutgers for you, but another tab open will make my computer explode. lol

You’ll be fine. I’m taking all APs, selfstudying for 2, and finished Calc 3 last year, and am now taking math at college. And senior year is still the best year of my school career Nothing matters anymore.

Good luck with everything, though! You can always drop classes if you don’t think it’s what you want to do. Senior year should be abould having fun!

You don’t have to take physics unless you’re aspiring for a top-tier university. If you already have 2 years of science, you should be fine. You can also opt for an easier science such as AP Environmental Science, which my friends and I all did because we’re too lazy to take physics :)

Your course schedule is vigorous, and I can tell you from my own personal experience so far this semester is that taking a hard schedule + college applications = school sucking just as much, if not more, than it already has the past 3 years. The first semester of senior year is no fun, trust me. I’m hoping second semester will be better, but whatever, this isn’t about me. Good luck and don’t stress yourself out too much!

If you want to go into nursing, it sounds like the Anatomy course would be better suited for you. Don’t make your decisions solely based upon what looks fancy. You need to prepare yourself for your future studies/career.

Senior friends I have right now say that first semester sucks because of apps and classes, but they say second semester is already so much better. They’re also taking a bunch of AP’s (like 4-6), so you’ll be fine. Your schedule also looks very good. Good luck fellow junior!

@getacar - I agree with you that the OP should do what s/he loves, but most high school anatomy courses are in no way rigorous, and most colleges understand that. Schools like Stanford even recalculate GPA based on the perceived difficulty of your class.

So, yeah, I would say take the hardest classes possible. You could take classes that you’ll love in college. You have to get there first.

Thanks everyone for your input. This post has was made a couple of weeks ago and since then I made my course requests with my counselor. All of my classes are exactly as I expected with a few exceptions:

Gym/Physical Education
UMDNJ Medical Terminology/Emergency Care
AP English 4
AP Psychology
AP Biology
Anatomy and Physiology HPA (My counselor agreed it would be all right for me to forego physics for anatomy [YES! Lol.])
Pre-Calculus Honors (I also now have the option to take AP Statistics instead of Pre-Calculus or concurrently with Pre-Calculus. Should I take it? Many of my fellow students tell me it is the easiest of the AP courses.)

Ive never been the amazing student colleges drool over, just a hard working kid and according to what Ive read on CC, I pale in comparison, haha. My classes were never accelerated and Ive always been only slightly above average. Im not looking for any Ivy League schools, just solid public schools (Rutgers, University of Pittsburgh, etc). My reach however is NYU, do I stand a chance? Lol. Once again, your input was very much appreciated and I hope to hear more from you guys.
