Determining Residency status when transfering

Hello, everyone.

This is my first post in a forum that I've been lurking for quite long so bear with me.

My case is a very specific case and would appreciate any advice and of course answers, if possible.

I am thinking of transferring to Cal next fall and have decided that if its possible I will be a part time student and work full time during my first year.

My questions are these two:

Will I be able to be a part time student the first year I transfer into Cal so I can work full time?

Will working full time for a year make me eligible for in-state tuition for my remaining semesters, taking into consideration that I will get a California ID and intend to make California my final destination and will be able to be independent for that year.

Also to add, both my parents work and live overseas, therefore don't file taxes in the US.

The financial independence requirement is 2 years. There are also other requirements. I would not trust the advice of anyone other than a UC registrar in telling you that “it will be ok”.
You ought to be able to find out whether the college allows part-time students by using your favorite search engine.
