I'm looking into Detroit-Mercy college because they have a five year masters program for architecture. Is there any other schools that have a similar program but would be a little more well known and not in Detroit. I'm a pretty good student with about a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 29 ACT score. Any ideas?

I researched arch schools a couple of years ago for my daughter, the only one I found with a straight 5-yr Masters was Tulane. At that time they required at least 2 HS studio art classes but the portfolio (which could include writing samples as well as visual art) was optional, but you'll want to check on the current requirements. This could be a very opportune time to apply there as many may be wary of the status of huricanne recovery of NO in general and Tulane in particular. Good luck! p.s. also post a message on the architecture thread on the Other majors board.

oops, here's one more: Montana State University has a 5 year March program, you apply with a portfolio at the end of freshman year. I lived in Montana for several years and Bozeman is a great place -- if you love snowy and cold winters. It is the artsy town of MT and has wonderful skiing and other outdoor activities (it's the gateway to Yelowstone National Pk).

Take a look at the DesignIntelligence 2006 Annual "America's Best Architectural and Design Schools". It provides the most useful and comprehensive look at all the programs available nationwide. What makes it particularly insiteful is that the rankings are done by architects and designers in the field, therefore offering a very professional and objective result. I think it's about $25 (online download) and worth every penny.... www.di.net and http://www.di.net/archschools/schools.html

check it out and gl
