I happened to be walking through the academic quad this morning when they were having the DHS breakfast reception. Seems like yesterday we were there with my D, not 3 years ago.

As I walked by, the speaker was going over the basic stats about the winners, and there are 44 attending Tulane this year. That's a very healthy percentage from 75 winners. I cannot recall for sure, but I think my D's year it was in the upper 20's or low 30's. Back when they had 100 winners a number like 44 was more the norm.

Wow, I’m surprised more don’t attend when offered such a wonderful scholarship. Congratulations to the winners this year and those still attending.

Well, some of the kids get similar scholarships to other schools and opt for them. For example, in my D’s year someone we had corresponded with a lot got a DHS and an identical value scholarship to WUSTL. She chose the latter. Also, some of these students get into Harvard, Princeton, etc. and choose those schools. In many of those cases the family either can comfortably afford those schools or they qualify for no-loan financial aid.

On a completely different stat, while I was down there (got out Monday afternoon ahead of the storm) I read two different “official” numbers for the size of the freshman class. One said 1659, the other said 1730. Not sure which is right.
