The brain drain of better students out of NJ will likely increase as a result…

The “brain drain” has occurred and will continue to occur as long as people perpetuate the Rutgers stigma. It pains me to hear a ton of my high school senior friends talk about how Rutgers is their last choice and how they’d rather go to TCNJ (still in NJ, but really now). Some don’t even give schools within NJ a chance, never even applying. The scholarships do help, yes, but I loathe to attest the “brain drain” to less scholarships.

Holistic means it’s their money and they decide.

Well TCNJ got rid of all their free rides a couple of years ago and now has a max award of $6500 per year which is probably the lowest of all the NJ state schools - at least Rutgers still has the presidential award.

So here’s something I hadn’t heard before. It comes from the Student Aid FAQ’s:

I thought that Merit Scholarships were NOT based on financial need, why do you need to complete the FAFSA?
This year, some Merit based scholarships have a “need” component. Please visit the Undergraduate Admissions website for further information: [Rutgers | Rutgers Admissions](http://www.admissions.rutgers.edu/costs/scholarships.aspx).

Of course the link just takes you to the page thats been up forever & says nothing about merit scholarships being impacted by need. Anyone know anything about this twist?

What other scholarships are you guys applying for?

bump… anyone else get notification lately?

Has anyone received a scholarship for top 10% or top 5%, with 1500/1600 and 2200/2400 SATs? And if so for which school? Anyone get a scholarship to SEBS, and if so, how much and can you share SATs and rank? Sure do wish Rutgers would post that grid again so we all wouldn’t have to guess!

This comes from an E-Newsletter for Counselors:

First-Year Scholarships

Scholarship notification begins soon! Only students whose applications were submitted (with essay) by December 1 will be considered for these awards. If your high school does not report class rank, we will request this information from you in order to consider your students for first-year scholarships. Lists of students who may qualify based on SAT scores will be mailed to schools within the next few weeks. All scholarship recipients will be notified by April 15. Please ask your students to be patient, and let them know that Rutgers merit awards are not negotiable.

my son applied before dec.1st and got in right away - in state. but he retook his SAT and never resubmitted his new scores [ 2090/2400] GPA 3.9. so he never got in to honors or scholarship . Rutgers was his safety but now he’s enrolled there. anyways to get in to honors /scholarship or too late ?
