Did any of you get a 10 or above on your essay for the Oct Test?

12 and 1.5 pgs. my essays are sick and my grammar sucks :(. 700.

I jumped from an 8 in march to an 11. i used 3 body paragraphs about huck finn, rosa parks and grapes of wrath (this book tends to be quite negative, but its usually applicable if you use jim casey). i dont think my essay was very good, but it was long and had three concrete examples. the sat graders like long and concrete essays.

^ I second that -- especially if it's cookie cutter too.

MY topic was about actions being louder than words.. and i talked about body language and behavior during job interviews, and about Mother Teresa. was left with 6 lines space at the end. got 12.

If you left 6 lines empty, you must've had one hell of an argument/content.

yep. It was strong acc. to me. lots of attitude ;)

I got a 10, I'm a little disappointed; I really thought I would get an 11 or 12. (Words vs Actions topic)

I used a lot of literary examples such as Macbeth, Julius Caesar and Oskar Schindler. Also used a current issues one about politicians. And a personal.

My essay was long; I think I had one or two lines remaining. I don't remember to well though.

I could send you my essay if you want. Later that is. Just PM me.

i got a 10 wrote about death

Got a 9 talking about The Great Compromise and some personal bullcrap example.

I got an 11 on the compromise topic. It was 1.5 pages and I talked about slavery and I don't remember what else. I can send it to you when it comes out.

10 on compromise. Used three personal examples. Worst essay ever. Filled up both pages, though. PM me after Nov 1st and I'll send it to you.

I got 11 on compromise.

Used WWII (Atomic Bombs) and The Scarlett Letter. I used probably 3-4 "big words". Filled up the entire two pages minus one line.

do you guys have any specific tips for getting such high scores? i can't even think of good examples. seriously... i can't. and somehow during test time all the vocab i worked so hard to memorize magically flouts away from me...

I didn't use any classy vocab, I used everyday commonplace words. Your essay should be good overall. They are not going to count how many big words you used.

I think you should keep some generic examples that you are very familiar with. Something that you learnt during history about a war hero would be a good example, and then something from your literature texts.

I usually use whatever I can from two tragedies of Shakespeare's that we have learnt in school (JC and Macbeth). There's always something or the other I can use from these two plays. I just fit them into the topic somehow.

You can also make up personal incidents.

As for memorising vocab, bad idea. I think you should write naturally, and not force yourself to use some word that you learnt the day before. If it can be used in the context, then it's great. Otherwise, leave it.

I think examples account for a point higher.

11

Atlas Shrugged
Ingrid Betancourt-Colombia-FARC

10 here.....

i had the compromise prompt

Romeo and juliet
Gilded Age (i ALWAYS manage to fit this one in...doesn't matter what topic it is)
