I'm applying RD but none of my SSP friends got in EA. Is there anyone out there?

Look no further! I was accepted EA (SSP 2006).

anyone else? i'm interested to see also...probably applying to SSP this year

got in too. i think it shows them you are willing to learn more even when lounging around would be...awesome. also, maybe shows interest in H? if nothing else, you learn so much about Harvard that you just fall in love.

yeah ssp 2005

good to hear! congrats!

Yuppers- SSP 2006!

does ssp really help? (its secondary school program, right?)

isn't it prohibitively expensive too?
well, I guess not for most H applicants...

it is pretty expensive...have any of you applied for fin. aid for SSP? if so, how much do they give?

yes i got 1k

im not applying to harvard. but two of my SSP (06) friends got in early this year. but i think for them...they would have most likely gotten in anyway. maybe SSP + great essays pushed it over the edge. but anyway, you should want to go for the experience, not the possible leg up in college admissions (not that there is any really). the experience was awesome :)

I KNOW!!! as a fellow SSPer, I LOVED AND LOVED the experience there, Annenberg (although it kicked us out at the end) ... Dance.. widener Library,,and those coveted moments lying on the grass with my friends "pretending" to be real Harvard students and posing for all those tourists who were busy taking pictures of us . . . ;)

I did SSP 2005 and 2006 and was deferred despite having two recommendations from professors (Well, one was a recommendation and one, my professor asked if he could just write to the admissions office to let them know that I received the second highest grade ever in his class and that I would be "an asset to the economics department"). Go figure. But SSP still owned all.

Yeah. I had my recommendatin letter from Professor as well.
I am applying RD, so we will see ..

disappointed it does not really make a whole lot of change.. :(

I did SSP 2005 and everyone I know who attended are going to great schools now... Harvard(5), Cornell(2), UChicago(3), Columbia(1), Brown(1), NYU(1), Carnegie Mellon(1), U of Texas at Austin(1), Berkeley(1)

I think that it´d be a bit dangerous to attribute their success in getting into Harvard or other schools to the summer school... there´s a lot of self-selection going on. People who just attend the summer school to begin with are much more likely to apply to these schools afterwards, and probably more likely to get in. Still, yeah... SSP was awesome... changed my whole perspective on what to look for in a college. Ironically it made me decide not to apply to Harvard, but im extremely thankful for the experience... anyone who has the chance to attend def. should go!

my friend who did SSP 2006 got in early! i did ssp but im not applying to harvard..

I went to SSP 2006 and was accepted, but I do not think SSP helps you out on your application at all. From the application for SSP, it was pretty clear to me that Harvard was just capitalizing on its allure/prestige to try to suck as much money as it could out of the general public. The application was very, very short and almost a joke.

Whereas programs like RSI only admit a handful of applicants, SSP was flooded with 100s of kids, so it's obvious to me they weren't being selective at all.

Go to SSP if you want to know more about the Harvard campus and life (I definitely fell in love with the campus during my stay) but don't expect it to help out on your app.

sorry, but could someone tell me what SSP is ?

what is SSP??
