What's the story with Middlesex?

In reviewing the various prep school threads (where are you applying to? where did you get in to? etc.), I noticed that Middlesex is not frequently mentioned by those who have applied to the fancy prep schools. Why? What is Middlesex's reputation? What is its image? What's the problem with it?

mmmm...i'd like to be in the middle of sex right about now

Haha I thought you meant Middlesex County, NJ, and I got all excited for a second.

^^ that's what I thought as well.

Most people here are SPS/Exeter/Andover crazy.
Which is proably hypocritical seeing how I'm an incoming Exonian. :P
If you have questions about MX try PMing prepparent, her child goes there...

Look for prepparent on the boarding school thread. His daughter is in her second year at Middlesex and prepparent knows a lot about the school.

Thanks for the advice, exonianwannabe and shelley14. The thing is, I've read prepparent's posts and clearly prepparent is an advocate for Middlesex. I was not so much looking for the positive spin on the school as I was hoping to understand the reasons why Middlesex seems to be out of favor with most of the posters who are applying to some of the more prestigious boarding schools.

I think you've nailed it yourself when you talk about cc posters who apply to 'more prestigious schools.' There are the really top, top schools reputation wise - Exeter, Andover, St.Paul's - and all of the others! In my mind it is almost like someone who is applying to a Williams or Amherst and asking why it is out of favor with Harvard, Princeton, or Yale applicants.
There are so many great boarding schools to choose from. They just don't all have the same name recognition prestige.
