Did anyone attend Pirate Preview (Accepted Students Day) this weekend...

What are you thoughts? Are you ready to commit after your visit? So many ASD this weekend!

My D attended and we paid the deposit on the way home. She has been accepted to the Honors program and is really excited about it.

Congratulations to your D! Sorry we missed it…SH is a top choice for DS.
What is it that “closed the deal” that day for her?

She was already leaning toward SHU, the campus is the right size for her, not tiny but small enough where she can easily get to class from the dorms and not feel lost in the crowd and also small enough for personal attention. While on campus, she talked with the students that run the school radio station (it’s a heavy metal station, which is her preferred music genre) and she’s interested in possibly working there. She loves the dining hall, it’s hands down the best of any of the schools she toured. We ate there and were a bit overwhelmed at all of the choices. She also felt at home with the other students in her group for her particular major. Overall, it was a good day and I’m so relieved to have this decision over and done with! :)

That’s wonderful! I have a few friends with students there and very happy. What will she be studying? Are you from NJ? SH tied for first with my son, we sent an appeal for any additional funding but no word back yet…they will have to make quite a comeback to meet the full tuition award at one of our NJ state schools but was worth a shot. Best of luck to your daughter!!

D will be studying nursing. We also sent a financial aid appeal and got a favorable response. While it was not a huge amount, every bit helps. That additional brought our total costs down to a decent amount less than Penn State (we are from PA) who offered her nothing except loans, and not much more than the other state schools she was accepted to. I really felt that the difference in price over the state school is worth paying due to things like their Freshman Studies program, the Peer Mentor, and other programs that hopefully will help D get acclimated to college and set her up for a successful 4 years. Btw, D commented that in her small breakout group, every one except for her and one other kid from CA was from NJ.

Snfsma, Sounds wonderful! I thought NJ in-state tuition was high…looks like PA rivals CA!! I’m sure she will love SH…and it’s premier programs and prime location! We heard back from SH, very generous overall, but in-state wins and DS is very pleased. Best of luck to your DS!!
