haha funny, the skeleton guy. I’m applying for biology major too lol. Ironic.
I applied to both Emory college, and Oxford, but received the email from oxford.

my email was from oxadmission@emory.edu

I got it…I am surprised because I do not really have emory stats…but hopefully I’m in emory not oxford…

Yeah this is deff from oxford and not emory.ugh ):

but why would oxford send me an email if I never applied there? and also, why would they make it from James W. Dooley (the skeleton)? I feel as if they are trying to hint something.

Your first question is a good one. But maybe you accidentally applied to both on commonapp? It would be easy to accidentally click the “apply to oxford” button, considering it IS on the emory app. I do think it is hinting something, but I think it’s from oxford not from emory. The skeleton is the mascot at both schools, not just emory. I was just looking on their website and they have two. Both go by the same name but look slightly different.

assume that Emory implies your decisions in this email. Why does Emory want to do this while there’s one week before they release them? If they want, just officially put them on OPUS.
“Dooley” is a traditional last name of Emory. The current school president will replace his last name by “Dooley”. So James W. Dooley is currently the president.
Good luck to everybody!

I got the letter too, and it is from Oxford… but I ONLY applied to Emory College. Confusing!

You are very right TK_GNUS.

Traditions at Emory include Dooley, the “Spirit of Emory” and the unofficial mascot of the university. Dooley is a skeleton and is usually dressed in black. The name “Dooley” was given to the unofficial mascot in 1909.[36] Each year in the spring, during Dooley’s Week, Dooley roams Emory’s campus flanked by bodyguards dressed in all black (“Dooley guards”) and lets students out of class with unscheduled appearances in classrooms. He typically walks slowly with an exaggerated limp. A spokesperson amongst the bodyguards walks with him to deliver his messages as he never speaks himself. His identity is unknown and this and how his guards are involved with the tradition is often fodder for campus gossip. He adopts the first name and middle initial of the University’s current president. As such, Dooley’s current full name is James W. Dooley, after James W. Wagner. Dooley’s Week culminates with Dooley’s Ball, a grand celebration that takes place in the center of campus on McDonough Field held in celebration of Dooley and Emory University. A sporting match called the Dooley Cup is played between the university administration and the student government association each spring as well, and the SGA remains undefeated.

it IS weird that they send us campus tour info a week before decisions but I doubt it means anything…

I don’t think this means anything. It’d be kind of a weird way to let people know their decisions.

EDIT: Sorry :P, forgot to include that I also received the email and I only applied to Emory.

I didn’t get one. I REALLY hope it doesn’t mean anything. Knowing that almost all my colleges have already sent out likely letters/early admissions/ early writes for URMs and not receiving anything myself is making me really depressed.

ugh this is bothering me! check your spam? I reeeally don’t think the email means anything

My guess is that it means Emory want’s you at Oxford (if interested) and may be sent to Emory applicant’s as well as those that applied to both Emory and Oxford. I’ll check with my D who applied to both and would consider either opportunity seriously. Oxford is good. This could be a good message, but I’m just guessing.

I just checked common app and I only applied to emory not oxford and also I saw people post that they got the email and when I looked at some peoples stats they were well over qualified for oxford so if it means anything I don’t think it means they want you at oxford

What i don’t understand is how Oxford has your email if you didn’t apply there. The campus’ are a good 40 miles apart…
I also don’t believe it was sent to everyone, but I’m not sure if it has any relevance.

I’ve got the email. Well, I guess it means something only if it’s not sent to every RD applicant. Good luck to alllll! ( applied for both emory and oxford)

I received this from “James W. Dooley to me
show details 12:01 PM (9 hours ago)
This Email Was Sent From Oxford College of Emory University.”

Although it was my first post, I have no reason to lie. I think they got my email because I visited campus over the summer, but I choose not to apply. So this really doesn’t mean anything.

yeah…the more people talk about this, the more it seems that it does not mean anything…maybe just a random batch of people who emory or oxford had their email were sent this

^ agreed. oh well

I wonder if there’s someone who applied only oxford and still got the email…also someone should clarify about the 10000$ scholarship
