Did anyone else get this emailed entitled AU advisor?

Dear -----,

The waiting is almost over and soon you will be the one making the important decisions! If you are fortunate enough to receive several acceptances, then you may find yourself wondering how to choose. It will be important to remember why you decided to apply to those colleges in the first place.

Now that you know the colleges that want you, it may be easier for you to be a little more critical, so take the time to re-examine the academic, social and financial offerings by going back to their Web sites or even visiting if you are able.

If finances are an issue for you, be sure to wait to make that final decision until you have received your financial aid packages (which may arrive a little later than the acceptance letter). If you have questions about those packages, you may call the college’s financial aid office where you will most likely find that you have been assigned a financial aid counselor who is there to help you.

Remember that you must make a decision before May 1 or your acceptance can be withdrawn! Once you have made a decision, be sure to notify all the colleges where you were accepted, not just the one you plan to attend. All colleges maintain a waitlist in case they don’t get the number of students accepting them that they need to fill the freshman class, so once they know you will not be attending, they may give your place to someone else.

If you happen to be one of those students placed on a waitlist and it is your first choice, you still need to make a deposit at your second choice by May 1 since you may not hear from the waitlist school until after that deadline. Although that may mean you will lose your deposit, it will be worth it to secure a spot in college. If you are a financial aid candidate, you need to be aware that often there is little aid money left to give to students taken off waitlists.

Congratulations to you for surviving the college search process and good luck with your future plans.

Your AU ID Number is-xxxxxxxx

My question is did everyone get one of these emails? Does it mean I’ve been accepted?

D got it too – was so frustrated because she felt like it was a “tease”. it’s not an acceptance.

That’s really disappointing. AU is one of my top choices and I got my hopes up. It does feel like a teaser and I think it’s mean of them to try to play with student emotions like this.

The last mail was about senioritis. It’s clearly meant to be an advisory; just a mass mailer from a well meaning advisor :-)

yup - DS got it that email. I don’t see how the information in it helps anything. Odd.

Oxiate: My take…not mean at all. Record numbers of applicants at all schools mean they cannot rely on prior years yields and trends as much. A friendly reminder to let the colleges know if you have chosen not to come

Prepping you to make sure you give up your seat on the bus.

The other half of the email

“If you happen to be one of those students placed on a waitlist and it is your first choice, you still need to make a deposit at your second choice by May 1 since you may not hear from the waitlist school until after that deadline”

seems to be a nice way to say “if we accept you, but you are still holding out elsewhere, make sure to send us your money or we will admit someone else”

I think its not mean at all, just a nice reminder that your decisions will effect others besides you…

At least thats the way I read it.

Thanks for the translation, dadwonders! It makes sense to me now.

All I can add is that my S received it last year and was accepted.

So based on the statement of the previous poster, the question is, did anyone NOT get the email?

I got that e-mail too…not sure what it means.

S got that e mail also, kind of useless.

D got it too

d got it too. she found the email very condescending…

Son got the letter too.

I got the email as well. I also got another email from another school that was pretty much the same thing.

I see it as a way of telling us, the wait is almost over - whether it is good or bad news.

Don’t read much into this email. This was a mass mailer. They sent another about Senioritis on Feb 2. It was simple advise – some admissions member with too much time on their hands :-)

My son got this too … he was annoyed that it wasn’t anything important.

I also got this, but I’ve gotten this from all my schools and this is the last of 11 schools i have to hear from. It just means they can start sending out responses any time between now and april 1st.

i didnt get the email…is it possible they are still sending it out? or does this mean im gettign rejected lol?? i applied all the way back in november, cant believe i haven’t heard back yet.
