Did anyone else get this letter?

de la noche- look at the 5th paragraph of the letter:

"If you haven't already done so, please submit the grades you earned from the first marking period of your senior year..."

This is the request for mid-year grades we are all talking about. Does your letter have that?

Well, this is kind of disappointing. I'm in the same group as Foil, accepted but with no mentioning of any scholarship.

Does this mean there is absolutely zero chance at Presidential/Trustee?

I would think that by now, it would be a bit late for them to notify admittees of pres/trustee consideration.

Are people not allowed to call the admissions office and ask about scholarship eligibility?

I've called and been told that I submitted everything before the deadline for scholarships, but they won't say anything about if I have a scholarship or not.

Does this letter count as an official request for senior midyear grades?

Because I'm trying to figure out if i'm on the borderline or not...

or did everyone who DIDN'T get trustee/presidential and submitted before Dec. 11 receive this email?

stressed0ut: No. Some people who submitted before Dec. 11th have been accepted, and have not gotten Trustee/Presidential so far, did not receive this mail/email.

StressedOut-
When I called the admissions office, I was told that everyone who applied by Dec. 11 but was not receiving a presidential or trustee scholarship will receive this letter.

And yes, the letter (5th paragraph) is an official request for senior midyear grades.

I was also told by admissions that no one has been rejected yet and no other acceptances or rejections will go out until first week of April (unless they get a scholarship from another source like Alumni groups.) They may be saying this just to get people to stop calling but we'll have to go by this unless someone else tells us on these boards that they got any other letter.

ahh thanks Foil_ and cc411..

bummer, i thought i was borderline =/

cc411, i dont think you're right because some people apparently got both letters, meaning the no scholarship letter AND a letter requesting mid-year grades... in the no scholarship letter, the request for mid-year grades is not official, it's more of a suggestion.

Okay, so I WAS in the same group as Foil...and the other day I got the Dean's scholarship, 1/4 Tuition.

Foil, did you get anything like this recently too? If so, that could explain what group 2 was.

At any rate, even though I didn't get Pres or Trustee, I am very happy! The letter said only 18% of people ACCEPTED to USC get merit-based scholarships, so I guess this says something.

confused_student: I have not received anything yet. Hopefully I will get something tomorrow, and hopefully it is a half- or full-tuition scholarship, as with anything less I will not be going to USC. You made me even more nervous, because I was half-thinking everybody in group 2 was getting Trustee/Presidential... guess not :(

But good job on the scholarship! It does say something!

de la noche-
The no-scholarship letter we received included a request (not a suggestion) for mid-year grades. The last paragraph states:
"If you haven't already done so, please submit grades you earned from the first marking period of your senior year. For your convenience, you may submit your grades online at <a href="http://www.usc.edu/MDYResponse">http://www.usc.edu/MDYResponse</a>."</p>

Foil-
If you didn't get the letter yet, I think you probably have a good chance of receiving the scholarship- good luck!

yeah but some people received TWO letters, one of them specifically asking for mid-year grades... they send the no-scholarship letter to every applicant who hasn't been accepted yet and isn't getting a Presidential/Trustee scholarship

the letter specifically asking for mid-year grades is for people who are borderline

the no-scholarship letter is for people who either didn't get a scholarship or just for people who aren't borderline

HEY GUESS WHAT? Let's all stop stressing about what types of letters OTHER people received, and just concentrate on your own. Got it? Goooood...

You may start freaking out on CC when April 2 rolls around, and a big, beautiful packet is yet to be seen.

the 5th paragraph of the no trustee/presidential letter is NOT a suggestion. It's a REQUEST. "If you have not done so, please...." is not the same as "If you would like to submit your midyear grades, please..."

Here's why I think people are receiving 2 mails.

1st Group: the people who are not receiving scholarship are sorted out to the "normal applicants who applied by Jan" pile (These people are receiving the no scholarship letters)

2nd Group: the people who applied by Jan. or sorted INTO the Jan. pile are just beginning to be looked at. (The borderline applicants from THAT pile are receiving the specific midyear request)

Hence a person who applied by December 11th, the scholarship deadline, who's been put INTO the Jan. pile and is BORDERLINE will receive 2 letters.

stressedOut-
Good observation- I agree that is probably correct.

so if you're not even borderline you only receive one no-scholarship letter?

papercuts-
That would be nice because we received only the no-sholarship letter (so far). Why don't you call admissions and ask them that, then report back to us?

It's not if you're "not even" borderline. You might not get an official request for midyear grades b/c you're definitely in...it goes either way.

Well, I got letters today about getting Dean's and an invite to TO.

I'm actually really excited about the scholarship. It's not what I needed in the most feasible situation to go to USC, but I might be able to make it work w/ an intense summer job and some outside scholarships. Everybody else who has gotten their acceptance but nothing else should probably expect that as well, unless they're international.

My daughter was admitted in the second wave, then on Saturday got a letter that she would get half tuition scholarship if she were a finalist and put USC as first choice. Maybe that's kind of equivalent to the no-scholarship letter -- none that we didn't already know she would get anyway.
